Akira (movie) Good
Azumanga Daioh (TV) Very good
Baccano! (TV)
Berserk (TV 1997) Very good
Blood: The Last Vampire (movie) Very good
Blue Gender (TV) Excellent classic! ...well, at least for me. my first ever anime (apart from intermittent DBZ every other week, but that dont count) and it really sucked me into the big black anime hole of social life death. neat rhe end the technicalities were bugging me a bit (this blue got smashed to bits and was all over the place but still alive, and one bullet to the core killed it. i want gore! not a one-shot-one-kill system!!!) and plenty of revolutions to keep u interested. and unlike most, blue gender doesnt wait till the very end to spill the beans (or at least half of them)
Chobits (TV) Very good YAY! RANOM ECCHI ANIME! this one raised more than a couple of worried 'errrr..''s due to not-too-subtle sexual innuendos all over the place. but still, that was half it's charm! if you want big explosions in your anime, then look elsewhere, this is about the closest thing to an anime romantic comedy i have ever seen. only it can't be that simple, so obviously one of the main charicter's love interests has to be a robot. and to top it off, at least 50% of the main char's body mass is hormones. aaand so on.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV)
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV)
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Not really good i really cannot understand why this is ranked the best anime. i would say mediocre at best. none of the episodes are related to the one before it, the story (and i use that word in it's loosest sense) is weak, all the characters are so bland and predicatable, and their backstory is minimal. **cowboy bebop board meeting** "so, we need backgrounds for our otherwise paper-thin characters" "uuh.. how about an armless ex-cop, some random kung-fu gangster afro-man, a scantily-clad woman with a massive debt and a lanky super-computer whizz-kid of unspecified gender?" "oh what the hell, i can't be arsed thinking." and the one thing i cannot bear is it's subcontinent-sized ego. pre- and post- ad break, i was assured that the work 'cowboy bebop' would become 'a geanre all of it's own'. It wasn't. It was shite. the characters were gained at a one-per-episode rate for the first five, then it was off to do some completely random missions across the galaxy. i coulda skipped streight from episode 5 to episode 23, and everything would still have made perfect sense. as a final thought, when i first heard the title "cowboy bebop" i steered clear of it, because the picture i counjoured up (from the title alone, this is) was a comedy program, in space, featuring several girls waring far less than one should wear when venturing into the icy vaccum of space, or cow hides. i couldn't decide. frankly, it would have been better that way
Dragon Ball Z (TV) Good do i seriously need to tell you? well, the plotline is about as deep as the average james bond film, but who here hates james bond? i thought not. big explosions. need i say more?
Elfen Lied (TV) Masterpiece
Fantastic Children (TV)
FLCL (OAV) Good yes! logic is overrated! furi-kuri was the first anime i had ever seen that devoted itself entirely to humor. so much so that if anyone says they understand the plot of FLCL, they are just lying. this has more twists and turns than a tangled slinkey, and pulls off, very nicely, one of the hardest types of humor to pull off. random humor this had me in fit's of laughter sometimes, and othertimes i didn't even have a smirk on my face for 10 minuites streight. the worst thing was i could just feel the jokes passing me by, and that was irritating. o found out in the directors commentary that they are japanese jokes. hence the passing by but still, i doubt i will forget moments like canti Vs the hand, or guitar to the head. he
Full Metal Panic! (TV)
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV)
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (OAV)
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Very good HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAA!! what? as i discovered from the flcl review, i can't review comedies. leave me alone! BULLY! *curls up underneath desk in foetal position*
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Excellent first and foremost, if you know nothing about fullmetal alchemist at the moment, then good. do not read up any more about it, just watch it. you will not be disappointed, and the aptmosphere created works best if you know nothing beforehand. so with this in mind, i will not tell you any of the specifics, but rather just give you a general idea of just how damn good it is. i was very, VERY tempted to award the second ever ''masterpiece" rating to an anime. VERY tempted. the only reason i did not was because this would mean putting it on par with the ultimate anime, last exile. and it just wasn't quite good enough. definately a solid contender for second place, and if not, it at least gets podium position. i love the action. i love the suspense, the drama, the very real feeling of tension in the air. (i looooove the first theme tune) i love the way everything gets really complicated (for an anime) there is no clear right or wrong, no faction to easily choose over the other in a world that doesn't allow for neutrality. watch it, dammit! easily the best anime of recent years (2003), well, of the one's i've seen anyway.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Very good
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)
Gunslinger Girl (TV) Very good
Gurren Lagann (TV)
.hack//SIGN (TV) Very good well, i liked it. generally, when the anime features a main char that wants to just curl up in a corner and die, i take a disliking, but character development and really quite outgoing side chars fixed this for me. but dont watch it if you want it all nicely bundled up at the end (i.e. the opposite of evangelion) as the last ep will still leave u with loads of questuions. havent got round to the seqels yet, so i dont know if they 'fix' it and wrap up all the loose ends, but i doubt it.
Haibane Renmei (TV) Good take a deep breath, people. some of you may want to sit down too, for this earth-shattering announcement: this anime doesn't even have a hint of violence in it! i can see you all now, wide eyes, brain desperately trying and failing to rationalise this new information. i suspect that some of the more die-hard DBZ or yu-yu fans are hyperventilating, but it's true and this reminds me of why i really love anime. few and far between are television programs or, even rarer, hollywood films that have a level of ingenuity or imagination even close to what anime can produce. oh sure, the ideas are there, but no movie company is going on a venture so risky anytime soon. 'best just regurgitate another rogue spy or super-agent film, then' they say. but anime is different. because it is so widespread, and because of the relatively low budget required to produce them, they can afford to take a bit of a risk, to be imaginative, hell, to even create a whole new universe for these characters. haibane renmei, the charcoal feathers foundation, is a story jam-packed with emopt
Hellsing (TV) Good oooh, hellsing. what a mystery thou art. as the credit's rolled, a frown decended upon my face. this frown contorted, as my brain wallowed in puzzelment (is that a real word?). i felt like i had missed whole scenes. not because the story made no sense, but because EVERYWHERE I WENT ON THE INTERNET CONTAINED HELLSING PICTURES I HAD NEVER SEEN! no, they werent from the manga, and there are no other animated spinoffs or sequels. puzzelment. other than that, i liked hellsing. to be honest, the storyline isn't much to look at, but Arucard is definately my best character ever, and the 'oldskool' feel that this anime posesses is probobly enough to shift india, overall, it's a good anime if you don't mind things being a bit abstract (i.e. everything is drawn on red paper). and i leave you with this thought. arucard is the best character ever. if you ever see somone cosplaying arucard in a manner that could be seen as less than godlike, i suggest you shoot him. a silver bullet would be preferable for the sake of irony, but i'm not picky. This was not a suggestion, so much as it was an order.

Hunter X Hunter: G I Final (OAV)
Hunter X Hunter: Greed Island (OAV)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (OAV) Very good
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Good
Kurenai (TV)
Last Exile (TV) Masterpiece Last Exile. the best anime in the world. At time of writing, out of the 30-ish anime i have seen, Last Exile was the only one i have ever awarded the title 'masterpiece'. This is even more impressive when you consider that the first three episodes i watched almost had me throwing the entire series into the Pit of eternal doom and suffering (recycle bin)

Ouran High School Host Club (TV)
Outlaw Star (TV) Very good
Peacemaker (TV) Decent i have decided, upon this day, to invent a new phrase, which no-one will use and i will forget in a week (edit: prediction correct.). "pulling a kurogane" this is where a series builds up a great start, filled with promises of uber-coolness, great action, drama and just general 'yay.' and then, in the second half, TOTALLY fails to deliver any sort of uber-coolness or indeed, even a hint of chilly.kurogane reeks of wasted potential and literally the shittest ending i have ever, ever seen, which fails to resolve anything. the only thing keeping me from giving this a lower score is it really, really feels like it should be better, and the animation kicked ass. really disappointing, which is maybe worse than just plain crap. ;_;
