Better cast a Japanese person as the lead, or you'll be called "oppressive" by the Special Snowflake Squadron.

I knew that a live action Pokémon movie was bound to happen eventually especially with all of the live action commercials Pokémon has made lately, If there smart then WB or Sony will create an original character for the movie to avoid any backlash. Wink

Not even the anime can pull off the world of Pokemon well. This is going to be hilarious!

In this case I don't think so since even now with the current anime the dub version is still using the American-ized names for everything. So I'm sure that if it happens, we'll have Ash Ketchum instead of Satoshi.

Funny thing is I have this feeling they won't use the commercials CGI Pokemon, No not Sony or Warner, they will make very Horrible CGI Pokemon that look nothing like the Originals ( because quick cash grab) the only thing they will get right is the title.

He's from a place called Kanto, as in the Kanto region of Japan!

Stop oppressing the Japanese! Those poor people that are looking to willingly sell the rights to American producers to do what they will and will be compensated monetarily! SO OPPRESSED.

If the tone is closer to the Adventures manga or Origins, I might actually be down for that.

Which only has a chance of happening if Legendary gets it, in all honesty. Fingers crossed!

Why do I get the feeling that the conditions under which the rights would be given would go grossly in favor of Nintendo and the Pokemon Company? I can't really see them giving those rights over without a TON of caveats.

Oh no... the time has come...

Time to completely ignore it and let the flood of eventual internet memes tell me how this pans out! Laughing

I have a bad feeling that they're gonna whitewash it like all of the other live-action anime adaptations.

With both WB's and Sony's track record of messing with properties they do not seem to understand I don't have high hopes for this if they get it.

From my years of movie going they always seem to break the important rules.
- Stay true to the original source.
- Give the fans what they want. Not what you want. Don't make a movie just to sell product. (Yes.. I know it's Pokemon. But don't force it down our throats too much.)
- Leave the audience wanting more.
- Don't try to 'over-stuff' the movie because it doesn't actually make the move better or cool.
- People would rather have characters they care about and can relate too than bigger special FX.
- Special FX.. don't over do it to the point the audience brains shut down from overload or uncanny valley.
- Build a world that is believable because the characters have to live in it and deal with it everyday.

I think that's why the Marvel movies and now the NEW Star Wars movie are so popular. The Lord of the Rings started out this way but lost it. The Star Wars prequels lost most older fans because it was too much crap thrown on the screen. It made new fans because they didn't have nostalgia for the original trilogy. But I didn't like any of the characters or cared about the situations (trade deals?? come on)

Spider-man and Batman v Superman are great examples of what not to do. I find those movies are rather tiring to sit through because they throw so much at you trying to wow you into thinking it's an awesome event you are lucky enough to experience. Frankly I wanted Batman and Superman to kill each other because I didn't care about them. I think Captain America: Civil War will do extremely well because we've come to care about the characters so much.

Oh, definitely. The scars from the Mario Bros. movie will probably never heal.

Okay, in the wake the aforementioned Godzilla and Pacific Rim, let the "Warner/Legendary Pictures presents Pokemon" jokes begin....

(So, most of the plots will take place in dark, rainy arenas, with a new, grittier Pikachu?)

I wonder what WaterPokemonMaster (webmaster of PokeBeach) thinks about this news. It's been his dream since he was a kid to work on such. If these studios are in a bidding war, then I think now is the time to start calling up on connections and getting concepts out there.
