Wow that's a...dubious plot. Instead of going straight to marriage it would be more mature to wait until she graduated to see if they still had feelings for each other. She's so young and susceptible, yeesh.

Yeah, this was my problem with the manga as well. I still read it but the initial 'let's get married thing' made go 'Wut'. The pace at the beginning is waaaay too fast and in the beginning their love felt superficial imo.

And I'm a person who loves older male-younger female romance.

Yeah, it's a dubious plot, but ...

I know of one couple that had a 9 year gap between them, he was 25 and working as a singer / band leader. She was 16 and a junior in high school. They got married, without parental permission. Lasted 57 years, 1938 to 1995 when my dad passed away.

So, no, not out of the realm of possibility. It would be a hard row to hoe as they say.

So the legal marriage age in Japan is lower than in the U.S.? I mean given he is a police officer and she's a high school student and that age range is usually below 18 he wouldn't be doing anything illegal, correct? Lol, or is that part of the suspense like they married but can't let anyone find out?

Honestly I would have liked an anime rather than a live adaptation even if it was just a film. This is kind of close to Honto Yajuu so I'm kind of looking forward to it but I never lived live adaptations.

The article states that they get married with her parent's consent.

And it depends on the state. Most states have a minimum age of 18 without parental/judicial consent. Mississippi has a minimum age of 21 (15 with consent for girls, 17 for boys). Most states allow marriage as young as 16 with consent, but some set it at 15. In New Hampshire, you can get married as young as 13 if you are a girl, 14 if you are a boy. Virginia sets it at 16 with consent, but allows for younger than that if it involves a pregnancy. Massachusetts and California do not even have a minimum age with consent.

In Japan, the minimum age for marriage is 20. With parental/judicial consent, boys can marry at 18 and girls at 16. So in general, the legal age of marriage in Japan is at least two years higher than in the US, depending on the circumstances.
