FF XV domination. It sold over 700k(inb4 it sold worse than XIII) retail which is 100k short of my prediction. Unfortunate that 3, 791 people bought the Xbox One version due to a mistake on Amazon.

PS4 finally sold over 100k(outside of launch). Nice. Dat Xbox One decrease obviously since no one bought one for FF XV due to a mistake.

Not too surprising at the numbers given all the negative buzz about XV in Japan. Sold less than half of XIII's first week, which is about what I expected.

Brand damage + declining home console market in Japan led to these numbers in Japan ... I wouldn't call them bad due to this particular situation, it's also the best selling game on PS4, topping MGSV at 438.000 units, actually they are good numbers, however a little disappointing I would say Sad

Also they said it's the most downloaded D1 game in Japan ... waiting to know the figures

Edit: sorry ... not "D1 sales" but "overall" sales ... my bad Razz

^ At launch? It's the top selling PS4 game period by surpassing all LTD this week. lol Also, MGS V FW is 411k(293k being PS4).

Congratulations FF15 for being the best selling game on PS4 in Japan. There's no data for the digital sales so I expect the numbers to be higher than 800k.

If there's a negative buzz then why was the first week sales better than both XIII-2 and Lightning Return?

Mario Maker 3DS is to surpass the Wii U sales due to the larger base. (Albeit in the west might be a different story and might flop)

I expected 750k to FFXV TBH.

Mainline Final Fantasy games have always sold better than sequels and spinoffs. Even in FFXV's case the amount of sales of the game compared to Kingsglaive is horribly small, meaning around over 95% of players never saw the apparently required prequel movie.

Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is off to an atrocious start...
I wonder what will be Digimon's future if the next title ends up sharing the same fate?

Then why did X-2 sell more than XIII, a mainline Final Fantasy game, in Japan? If I'm not wrong, X-2's sales were also close to XII.

Can I get a citation for that? We don't even have the digital sales for the movie so how can you be so sure they didn't watch it?

Yes it sold less than XIII, but you people gotta keep in mind that console gaming is dead in that country. It's all about portable and mobile gaming for them.

X-2 is the exception, not the rule. Though the PS2 had much higher install base than the PS3 did for what it's worth.

There's no citation for the digital sales, but digital sales are never big enough to make such a monumental difference. It's still 90% at best if we say physical and digital sales are 1:1.

Japan has been buying PS4s at a quicker adoption rate than they did the PS3.As of right now in the PS4's life cycle it has sold more in Japan than the PlayStation 3 did within the same amount of time. Mobile gaming is definately popular, but we can't can't blame consoles when FFXV was released in a better market position than XIII was.

It looks like Final Fantasy XV for the Xbox One managed to make #19 on the chart, which probably is the first time the Xbox One title has made the charts in a long time.

Still, regardless what others make of sales, that's pretty good for a console game in Japan these days; a success thats needed in the days of mobile. (And portable, but I ain't dissing portable, while I'm playing Pokemon Sun at this minute Razz )
