So steam puts in effort to do stuff like this, yet still can't be assed to do any serious moderation on the unending torrent of shit assetflip games swamping the store.

But that is the mean reason for getting the steam version of Senran Kagura.

Tbh I'm not actually that surprised. There's been a recent spike in pretty cheap, graphic porn games coming onto steam *cough*SakuraGame*cough* This seems like their usual "we're doing something while doing nothing to stop the games being sold" bull.

So we no longer have the OPTION to uncensor the games we bought? That's honestly messed up.

Edit: Or do we just have to find more roundabout means to uncensoring the games?

There are sides to look at this is: first, that not everyone in there is an adult and thus restricts <18 from accessing 18+ content there. Second is that another is that it can be hard to prove the age. Third (or maybe part of the second point) is that those that are 18+ should be able to access the full version for a service/product they pay for. I lean more towards the second and possible third points.

Well your in luck since this in no way will prevent you from doing what you want with your copy of the game.

You can still patch them. They're just not letting links to said patches be made public on Steam. Think there's a Reddit thread/group dedicated to adult patches for steam games. Not that I'd know.

That seems ridiculous, considering there are some games with uncensored explicit sexual material on Steam (ex. Ladykiller in a Bind - I'm talking penises and vaginas during sex scenes). I thought we were moving forward, but this is a big step backwards. Confused

Thing is that the past couple months or so have seen more rape, scat & other "extreme" porn games being released & sold very cheap - thus getting more sales & exposure than adult games usually do on Steam. I imagine this is a response to that rather than the sex scenes in games like Ladykiller. The more obvious thing to do would be say what is & isn't allowed & ban sales of the latter, but Steam never turns down a sale.

Typical Steam, there's been a flood of 'sub par' adult games so they're using a sledge hammer to fix that and stop all adult games.

It is worth mentioning that modifying a Steam game through non-official means is still perfectly viable. If a user makes changes to their local copy of the code or assets, the Steam system will not prevent the game from operating as the user intends. (One of my current hobbies revolves around doing just this.)

Noooooooooo!! Gabe, why did you let us down? Anime cry

Honestly, I cannot tell this is a good thing or a bad thing. I hope that we get an explanation from Valve about this mess.

Next they will hopefully implement ways to ban uncensor patches altogether

From what I've heard, Washington law is a factor. I think the bigger factor are various other countries complaining that Steam sells porn by the countries' own standards like China (which is where SakuraGame comes from).

Just more roundabout means. Users are still allowed to talk about uncensor patches in the forums of the game themselves and there are curators specialized for mentioning games with such patches for now at least.

Not plausible unless you want Steam to ban modding altogether.
