One can only hope that the 'R' homage means that Sega will be remixing and using the fantastic soundtrack from the original sonic racing game.

What no crossover with other Sega characters? Because I was hoping that they were going to add Welkin from Valkyria chronicles as a racer with his tank

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed it'll focus only on the Sonic franchise. I know it's by far the most popular IP SEGA has, but the previous games had that massive crossover as a defining trait. Steve Lycett, director of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, was quite open about the process to getting characters into the game, however, and one thing I do remember is that it was quite long and difficult to do: This is because SEGA doesn't have full ownership of these franchises. The creators have a stake in it too, and for each franchise to be added, they have to talk with said creators, artists, and so forth and abide by the rules they set forth. For instance, Ulala's character designer was very strict with keeping her on-model, and the creators of Toejam & Earl had denied permission, every time, to have something from the series. |
