No, it just has no decent competition. From what I've heard, it's actually a really bad movie. Pity, because the first one was quite decent and the manga is great. -t |

I've heard the opposite. At least, I've heard it ends WAY better than the manga does with it's cool plot twist. spoiler[L wins by putting his own name in the DN before Rem can kill him] |

No, it wasn't very good and most of it's reviews from what I've seen have made it out to be ok at best and a very... simplistic movie I guess you could say. Death Note is just pretty trendy now and like was mentioned a lack of any real major competition has giving it a chance to shine, but personally it wasn't very good.
