It was only a matter of time. I'm curious, is this the first time the show has undergone a delay of any sort? I'm all for waiting until it's safe for everyone involved to come back and start making new episodes.

It's never had a prolonged delay as long as I've been watching it weekly (which is...back to Impel Down I guess? Dear lord.) It will occasionally take a week or two off for Japanese holidays, and there was a time during Enies Lobby when there were five recap episodes aired in a row, but that's all I can think of.

Think I have time to catch up (from the beginning) before this is all over?

Just kidding. If I decided to get into One Piece, I'd read the manga.

I think starting from the end of Enies lobby it took me 1 year to catch up to the current arc at the time (Fishmen Island) and that was watching I would say 3.5 episodes a day. Read the manga if you can because around the 2 year time skip is when the anime started to do like half a chapter an episode so it became like DBZ's Namek saga.

Very poor comparison. You have to take into consideration how much denser OP chapters are. Besides they expand upon stuff where the manga off screened/implied stuff.

This might actually be a good thing for one piece, they have been so slow they need a break so maybe the next time they start to be a little faster in pace. pls take all the time you need.

Well, the show did take multiple 1-3 weeks in it's old timeslot (prior to enies lobby) somewhat regularly (it averaged around 40 eps a year). Although I believe this is the first time there's been a production delay for a specific reason.

Also, them starting the reruns from the start of the Wano arc, and re-running Kitaro (instead of the first 3 eps of the Digimon Adventure reboot) could be an indication they don't plan on resuming anytime soon (or are at least preparing for that possibility).

I hope more than anything that this is just precautionary, given what happened with Kiramager (which thankfully is a completely seperate from Toei Animation).

If there is one anime in dire need of the Kai treatment its One Piece. Except they need to do it properly this time and reanimated everything from scratch with no filler.

Well Oda takes a break every month, so even if they took a year off, I doubt it'll make much (if any) difference, as they wouldn't be able to sustain it for very long. Not to mention, WSJ has already been delayed once, and there may be even more in future, so the manga may not even have an opporunity to increase the gap. Heck, the manga may even end up having more delays. given someone within Shueisha already contracted virus.

I mean they already have the Episode of specials which are basically the cliff notes version of One Piece with updated animation.

If you have absolutely nothing to do and skip the fillers, maybe, within about maybe 2 months.

Me, I’m getting myself reacquainted with the canon storyline of Detective Conan, skipping the fillers, and maybe a bit of canon episodes/manga chapters that are rather inconsequential.

I haven’t watched the anime in years, but One Piece doesn’t do skippable fillers. While Naruto used to spend half the year doing filler arcs and half the year covering the manga, One Piece takes the “five minutes on Namek” route and drags... everything... out... to... a... crawling... pace... instead. It’s been about 600 episodes since the last time One Piece had a filler arc that was longer than four episodes. It’s literally adapted at a pace of less than one chapter per episode. (The 102 chapter Dressrosa arc, which was already overly bloated in the manga, was 118 episodes in the anime.)
