The fact that someone as irrelevant as Haru has that many votes is astonishing

And over Ann at that. She is introduced WAY too late in the game to get a real feel for her, imo. It's one of my longest-standing criticisms of the Persona formula: there isn't enough time for the "September" character to get fully integrated into the party before the final climb to the climax begins. Persona 4 gets around it by introducing Naoto way before you ever run their "dungeon" and they join.

Wish they did with Haru what they would do with Yoshizawa in Persona 5 Royal. Giver her a recurring role earlier that leads to eventual recruitment.

And WTF is up with Akechi's placement? He was a terrible character.

I'm surprised that Ann is so low since it always seemed like she was the girl they were trying to push. Also glad to see that Makoto is so high up. She was probably the most interesting of the party members.

Also....has it REALLY been 5 years???????

Wow, Makoto beat Akechi. And Futaba is the next popular girl.

As far as Haru...she was at least spotlighted a lot in Scramble.

The large gap between Ryuji's popularity in the Japanese fandom compared to the western one never fails to amuse me.

Akechi is extremely beloved in the Japanese fandom. The female fans go absolutely crazy for him lol.

Ann and Morgana even have votes, how come? Shittiest characters in the whole franchise.

Not just Japan, I see tons of English speaking fangirls love him as well. The bad boys are always popular.

The rankings are about what I expected. Anne being last makes sense when you realize her archetype generally don't rank very high with these kinds of demographics. I think most Japanese guys prefer the more quiet, studious characters like Makoto compared to the flashy, boisterous girls like Anne.

Very true! I'm mostly on Japanese sites so I guess it just stands out more to me.

So I'm assuming Yukiko and Naoto are more popular of the P4 girls compared to, say, Rise.

Akechi is REALLY popular. If you look at the previous polls, he ranked really high and even won 1st at a Sega event. Usually he's the next one given merchandise next to Joker thanks to the buying power of his fans.

I also agree about Anne not being as popular in Japan because a lot of otaku (who are the ones voting in this poll) don't really care as much for flashy, trendy appearances.

Also, in Japan, Yosuke is really popular among P4 fans.

Naoto yes but Yukiko, nope. Last I check she usually gets ranked last or somewhere on the bottom.

But anyway yeah poll is about what I expected, I guess I'm only surprised Akechi didn't go ahead and rank first. Pity there seems to be such a huge cultural difference for Ryujii, though to be fair I do vastly prefer his English portrayal to his Japanese one (out of the various times I've heard it.)

I personally really like most of the P5 cast on the whole (yes even morgana) as I really dig their dynamic, not to mention each member tends to have a few surpsing things about them that help them feel pretty well realized. Akechi in the OG game being the sole exception, and while I can't say I live him as much as others Royal did help me out tremendously by not only making it easier to buy Joker would care about him, but also by allowing him to not be boring as piss in the 3rd semester.

He was still really popular even before Royal came out. I don't think it would have been too far of a stretch to say that the writers were motivated to do something else with his character because of his initial feedback.

I never expected Makoto to be so high. I expected Ren (Joker), Akechi, Futaba, Mona and Yusuke as the top 5 in that order, which is almost the result except for Makoto slipping in for 2nd place.
