Honestly, I regret not watching the dub version in theaters. I'm usually a subs person and wanted to experience the original version, but I've been listening to the English soundtrack on repeat since I saw Belle and prefer it now. They really went above and beyond with the casting choice and translyrics.

Also there was a lot of talking in the movie and overlapping dialogue that it made it very hard to follow the subtitles.

The care they put into casting and producing this dub really paid off. I’m sure Kylie will be working on Broadway soon enough, but I hope NYAV can get her to come back for a few roles. She’s phenomenal.

I saw this over the weekend and the dub was phenomenal! The English songs are just fantastic, I cannot believe the VA is only 19!! The translations were perfect, too. I loved it!

I ended up seeing the dub in the theater just because of timing and I left really impressed with the work that went into it.

Wow, I watched both the dubbed and subbed version twice each (yes, I really liked this movie, lol) and thought Suzu/Belle's English VA did an incredible job... she did sound like an authentic teenager so I wasn't surprised she's only 19, but it's amazing that this was her first role! I'm usually someone who always prefers the subbed version of anime, but I legitimately prefer the dub for this movie. I think it can be difficult to sound both authentically like a teenaged/younger character and do an amazing performance at the same time, but she really pulled it off incredibly well. I hope she'll land more roles in the future, she has amazing talent.

I think the entire dub cast was great as well, with only one weak link: Kamishin. The performance itself was good, his VA just sounded like an Elementary or Middle Schooler, lol. I had a hard time believing I was listening to a High Schooler speak each time he was on screen, he just sounded so much younger than he was supposed to be.

If I'm paying to watch anime in a theater and it's dubbed that damn sure how I'm gonna watch it. The thing that really got my attention was that Belle/Suzu's va could really sing which is a rarity in dubbed anime-usually you get some shit that wouldn't pass in a school talent search. BTW-I gave the movie a rating of 6 1/2 out of 10 points, I'm not a big Hosada fan as I prefer Makoto Shinkai's films.

So as someone who attended Anime NYC, I could've entered the lottery to see this as an advanced screening which I assume was the subtitled version. Reading this article, I'm glad I waited to see the Dub in a theater closer to home. It was a breathtaking experience and the singing throughout was beautiful. If you loved Hosoda's BELLE, you might also want to catch Sing: A Bit of Harmony in English dub, too, while it's still in theaters. It feels like a full on musical! One of the female leads just repeatedly bursts into song, like a real musical. It's a fun show...a sci-fi love story with a twist. Smile

Just got back from the theater watching the dub version. Generally I;'m lukearm with musical cartoons ala Disney, but I really enjoyed, no, love this movie, Kylie did suchg a tremendous job. Beauty and the Beast is a classic, but the story and theme is just paint by number Disney style: tread lightly, no one gets offended, and let's maximize the demographic. Belle while has the veneer of the classic, the story is much more relatable and heartfelt, and no something Disney would do, at least not in this form of presentation. I found Belle to be much more enjoyable, if not just superior.

I'm surprised my account hasn't been pruned over the years lol

I signed in just to say I fell in love with the movie, and the dub, after watching the trailer for the first time. I am also a sub over dub guy, but Kylie has a magic about her that made my instincts tell me to give the dub the first exposure to the movie. And I'm so damn happy I did. Her performance was flawless, the music phenomenal, and the translation worked so well, I'm glad the studio took the time to nurture the entire process as it really paid off in the end. I've been listening to the music on and off since the movie released, and see myself doing so for a lot longer. I do sincerely hope that if there is a vinyl release, that the English dub get a fair chance at being pressed.
