For those saying he is victim-blaming or similar, may be he did hit his wife or maybe his wife pulled a false domestic violence-type card.

Very late. He's obviously going to be fired.

Normally this would be a completely asinine request to entertain, but given RWBY is an American franchise and tied to Roosterteeth I wonder if anything would be done over this. You can never tell these days. It also makes me wonder if there's ever been other instances of English dub VAs complaining about the staff or content in an anime they work on. Or are anime voice actors generally wise enough to not bite the hand that feeds them despite their personal grievances.

I'm not sure how that's possible when planning/marketing has already been finalized and the series' production is currently unknown (meaning the script might be done at this point). He may likely step down though.

Good on her for saying it out loud. I know as a VA she doesn't have much say over staff over staff of a spinoff, but that doesn't mean she has to just accept it and be silent either. The fact that he felt the need to justify himself in her mentions is kind of creepy.

Personally I've never understood how Ubukata continues to have a career, even if you somehow discount the spousal abuse. He's a thoroughly mediocre writer and I can't think of a single project that has been improved by his work (and a few that actively became worse for it). Usually you have to actually be talented to use your work as a fig leaf to hide a history of abuse.

Outside of his anime projects he's won several writing awards for his stories. He has the kind of career that focuses on his skill, where people will respect him regardless of what he does. It's a different situation compared to a musician, idol, or voice actor, because their public image is also central to their careers.

So the alternative is to let her go on and foster a hate campaign against him, without once speaking up for himself?

Funny how she’s never had a thing to say about Vic, Daman, or any of the white men she’s worked with at rooster teeth when they have gotten outed. This is an attention grab and anime news network gave it to her.

It's the oneside courthouse of the internet.

Rolling Eyes I see we've already reached the 'you acknowledged a thing happened thus this is your fault' part of the comment cycle already. Sorry buddy, but if a voice actor/industry member publicly calls out another member of the industry, journalists report on it, especially if the person they've accused also responds. I will never understand people who get upset that we don't let them keep their heads in the sand.

If any of the other scenarios you mentioned happened, we'd also report on that. Hell, the primary reason it was brought to my attention is because people in our forums brought it up in the series announcement thread.

Let's forgo the hyperbole here, she's only said one thing publicly and nothing else.

No, the alternative is to simply not to engage. No one forced him to comment (especially since said comment shows that his grasp of English is not the greatest). Could have just taken the higher ground.

Right, but that wouldn't make it creepy, it's just a stupid move since it can escalate things. That I agree with you.

And there's the elephant in the room about the whole thing: One of the reasons why many American and other western creators are using Japanese studios and media to deliver their products is because, since it's Japanese, the local producers are normally excluded from background checks that would be normally mandatory for western people, since those checks would clash with Japanese laws regarding privacy.

In this case, we have to assume Rooster Teeth didn't knew (or didn't care) who Tow Ubakata is, as long he is Japanese and talented, and since he is a foreigner, he could not be subject on background checks without violating Japanese laws.

Now, the best thing Rooster Teeth, the American rights holder, could do is to force the Japanese production commitee to exclude him, through that would be difficult, since Ubakata broke Japanese laws, not American laws, and the Japanese side would probably aren't going to like having foreigners meddling into local affairs.
