Who saw this coming? I wonder if they only commissioned this because it's getting a second season.

Looks like they're using a lower-key, less popular, show as a chance to spotlight more up-and-coming and lesser known talent.

I know ANN usually gets a different reviewer for the eventual home release and such but damn, I kinda want James Beckett to have to revisit this show for its dub just to fully complete his Fruit of Evolution journey Very Happy

Hmm not sure I agree. I think it's more just a general trend that more lesser-known/established VAs (like Jalitza here) are getting more major roles. It's been like that with Funi at least for the past few years now, even if they've now restricted themselves to only casting locally and unfortunately lost a lot of those newer actors who just made their debuts in those shows. And there's been plenty of times when newcomers were cast in very high profile shows and times when veterans were in super niche titles nobody watched.

I could see that casting mindset being more applicable to Bang Zoom since casting every show is handled by one singular casting director, but even then I'm not sure I've noticed that happening? Directors at Funimation, even under the current "in-house only" mandate have a lot more casting freedom overall so long as they stay within budget. Both leads here have worked plenty for Funi/CR before and I'm sure the director cast them because he thought they'd be a good fit, or enjoyed working with them/wanted to work with them.

I'm curious how much of a gag dub they'll turn this into. Can't say it's not a series that deserves it...

I guess I feel like for other shows it was more mixed, if only because they were also casting outside Texas or giving shows to other studios so you'd have a pretty neat variety of talent both in terms of LA/TX and big names with up and coming maes, while here it feels like a majority of newer or lesser-used Texas names (which I'm not judging in as far as I liked when Funimation spread out their casting pool beyond Texas, but this is probably great for Texas talent).

This show which doesn't understand humor NEEDS a "Ghost Stories" dub treatment. Heck, Seiichi's facial expressions alone scream "I can't be taken seriously!". Having gone through the whole thing once, I need an over-the-top/abridged dub to entice me to do it again.

Agree. I know lately that hardcore sub purists on Twitter are all about bashing on localizations for even the most minute script changes. But this is like that one Gyaru Girlfriend anime. It’s so dumb that it needs that self-aware abridged dub treatment. The kind that isn’t afraid to up the crassness and immersion breaking humor.
