RGGS: We're gonna establish the new way of the franchise with Like A Dragon, simple to understand for any new people who comes to the franchise...
*Nagoshi leaves RGGS and Sega*
RGGS: Well, just forget about what we said, daddy Kiryu gotta carry his franchise back now for three whole games. Wait, what means you not know who Dragon of Dojima is?

It all started with a project to create the children of the Dragon of Dojima even though he never had s#me....

But yeah, like Kiryu already had about 10 games. At the very least he started aging but went full kpop

Ishin! is superior to Kenzan! so better for it to escape Japan if only one can be chosen. I member when Sega said that samurai games wouldn´t sell so both had to stay in Japan. Lol.

They were never planning to drop Kiryu even after 6, so him continuing is expected.
Long live the true protagonist.

If that were the case 6 should’ve never been written with the idea that it was Kiryu riding off into the sunset. Especially as this also apparently supposed to happen with the 3rd.

So long as RGG avoids a Saiban 4 moment this can work.

I guess it's always been about him trying to escape that life so I don't really see it any different. 6 to me is just one chapter of his life came to an end and everything after is a new one that Gaiden will further explain. However, I'm incredibly biased, I never wanted it to be the end so this is good news for me and there's nothing more hype than two protagonists joining together.

Well 7 through a major story twist does gives him and everyone else that is or was affiliated with the Yakuza a major out. Though Kiryu’s arrangement that was established at the end of 6 is still in effect.

Presumably and by a guess this was done to assuage those that didn’t like Ichiban’s Dragon Quest inspired romp…….why they needed to also make Gaiden which centers around Kiryu? Confused

So at the stream, Yokoyama said Gaiden is meant to explain what happened to Kiryu between Y6-Y7 and after he meets Ichiban/Y7-8. It's a "Y7" Gaiden for that reason and a crucial story. It's for old fans who've been playing since 1 and are curious about Kiryu and for newcomers to get to know him before 8 because a lot of people just picked up the series at 7 rather than have players play through 6 titles.

I guess eventhough any new players highly curious about Kiryu and his importance in the mythos is still going to be in the dark if they haven’t play through a fraction of the games including 6……….though if I played 6 I’d probably be annoyed l.

Will you look at that. Like a Dragon and 8. 1. The translation name of the series in Japan that the localizers should have used from the start. 2. Said localizers specifically stated that they removed the '7' from the title because it would intimidate the consumer, etc. 3. Now they've added the number back, but a higher one, and are using the name they should have used from the beginning. I'll cut them some slack: Should have used with the PS4 releases starting from 0 for consistency. By their own localization logic, that will intimidate and confuse the consumer even more.

It only took 1 game for them to contradict their past statement/decision. That's hilarious. As always, localization logic never makes sense.

Kind of weird to see this series go from kind of niche to basically being Japan's Call of Duty with yearly/multi-yearly releases now.

I think the series fell off after 4, though. 0 was amazing, though.

I generally agree, but I found YLAD/Y7 a brilliant return to form -- and more. I'm a bit sad to see Kiryu back so prominently, as it feels like moving backwards.

I don’t see this turning into a yearly tradition. Keep in mind 7 came out all the way back in 2020. I think this is more just giving people options without having to wait too long.
