Listened to this when Cartoon Cipher released the audio interview a few days ago. Just adding my two cents that it's absolutely worth either reading here or listening to if you want a better picture of what happened, especially since I've seen a lot of mis-information going around prior just through the nature of social media.
Frankly, most of it was absolutely due to CR's piss poor response statement that painted Kyle's replacement being chalked up to scheduling/simuldub production timelines *and* that the dub moving to TX automatically meant the whole cast would be replaced. We know the former isn't true: 1. CR and esp Funi pre-merger has been more open about bringing actors back for reprisals via remote-recording, more than a lot of other studios and 2. Just... look at the various sequels from this year/long-running shows currently on-going. While remote recording for new shows is still unfortunately not as common as it was with only Chainsaw Man being a notable exception - whether it's a simuldub (a bunch this season) or not (One Piece), they are clearly using remote recording to bring people back. And I guarantee the latter implication is just going to work in CR's favor when there are a few returning cast members (not to mention returning actors for all the other Fall sequels) and some fans will think "oh, I guess it's not as bad as I thought it would be." Quietly dimming the whole matter.
It really just sucks all around, and compared to the improvements I saw in the industry less than a year ago, I can't help but feel pessimistic about the future with all the cards laid out on the table like this. I agree that a CR-specific agreement a la Netflix's would be the best way to move forward, but that can only happen if CR opens the door to negotiate or the TX talent pool breaks it down. And neither seems super likely at this point in time.

This was true throughout spring and summer. Only reprisals were permitted for remote recording in in-house dubs for VA's who moved out of Texas. Dubs that were outsourced to third party studios like Studio Nano and Sound Cadence were unaffected by CR's policy and continued to record remotely.

I'm guessing Mike McFarland was given an exception to cast VA's outside Texas since he also directed AoT which featured several LA VA's.[/quote]

I'm not a fan of mob psycho anyways and also don't really care about this union pro voice actor I'm happy Crunchyroll is doing this and i think anything and anyone pushing pro union ideals is bullshit so that's my two cents take it or leave it

I, for one, would be very interested on you expanding on WHY you feel this way. There are certainly legitimate reasons for being skeptical of unions...but in this case this response seems unusually harsh considering this union in question has appeared to operate in good faith.

The extra clarification here is confusing me a bit because I never said it wasn’t happening this Spring/Summer? I’m just saying that’s usually been the case for reprisals both pre and post-merger, so CR’s implication in their statement holds no water.

Crunchyroll also owns Aniplex of America because Aniplex Japan owns 50% of the entire company with Sony Pictures owing the rest. So a Subsidiary does union dubs..

So it sounds like a majority of the cast is returning which shouldn't be a surprise given the interview. Actors like Ray Chase, Patrick Seitz, Max Mittleman, Kyle Hebert, etc... including Cris Cason (the ADR director for S1 & 2) and Chris Niosi have all returned to the best of my ear, but don't quote me. Most notable cast changes so far are Kyle, Cherami Leigh, and Bill Rogers. Not going to speculate on the cast replacements in light of the situation (Mob's is the most recognizable by far), but I will say I'm not surprised CR just shadow dropped the dub with no word whatsoever. They clearly want the issue to just disappear.

I know Chris Cason is not returning as the director, but he has played like, a dozen of smaller parts in the show over the last two seasons. And it definitely sounds like he's still acting in the show, but again that's just to the best of my ear. And while Cherami was originally in Dallas, she's been LA-based for a while now. She still regularly works on both union & non-union projects (probably fi-core), including Funi/CR stuff, so my guess is this was more a solidarity move than Kyle's situation.

Crunchyroll really here contributing to the rehabilitation of a known abuser in the anime industry but refusing to even meet with SAG-AFTRA. But I expected this with how they've been casting Chris Niosi in minor roles in shows for awhile now.

Yeah... I can't say I'm surprised given his recent work and the support he's been shown by casting directors/producers even outside of CR, but with everything else going on with the show it does feel a bit

Isn't that a good thing? I thought the whole drama with Vic Mignogna was he never apologized or owned up to his accusations and people kept saying if he just did that he'd still get to keep working in the industry after some time off. Niosi did just that so there should be no problem with him continuing to work on stuff now.

Niosi didn't actually apologize for the things he was accused of though. He only apologized for having a bad temper that he claimed he was seeking therapy for but he claimed all the other allegations were false and the industry just accepted that as the truth without any further investigation. It's kind of telling industry folks are being silent about his come back on Twitter today so far.
