Well this sounds like an interesting premise, specially for all the Questioning and Non-Binary folk out there.

Not often you get a non-binary lead in a manga.

Uhhhh... no, please don't. This isn't a non-binary lead, this is a sexless lead which is a completely different story. A non-binary person is someone who has a gender identity that is non-binary, but they are either male or female like every human being. It's a mind thing, it's about the way someone sees themselves, an identity. In this case we're talking about a main character whose body doesn't have a biological sex. They are neither male nor female. They don't have genitalia, they don't have ovaries/testes, etc. It's a physicial thing. Please don't mix actual conditions with fantasy ones, it's very offensing.

I understand everything you said before and I'm not trying to equate the two, but are you referring to non binary people as fantasies?

lmao excuse me?

Non-binary gender identities are not ""conditions"". Non binary people are not "male or female". They are non binary. It's absolutely bonkers to me that you're accusing the person you're replying to as being "offensing" while 1) hitting on a bunch of offensive misinterpretations of NB identities yourself and 2) completely missing that this manga is transparently an allegory for exploration of gender identity. The character in question even straight up says in the article that they consider themselves to be "without gender" which is absolutely an aspect of NB gender identification.

The point they were making is that non binary is a self identification, while this is about actually being sexless. People who identify as non binary can feel as though they don't identify to either sex, but they still do infact physically have a sex. They are not genderless dolls, which is basically what it sounds like the characters in this manga are (not literally I know, but for the sake of comparison).

i get that you mean well, but please don't lecture me on the nature of NB identification when i am literally a nonbinary person myself lol.

repeating what i said in my previous post: the blurb for this manga reads entirely to me like an allegory for a person questioning their gender identity, especially given that the transitory state occurs at the average age that someone would go through puberty. the manga itself definitely isn't perfect and it comes off as deeply cis & heteronormative at times, but leaping down someone's throat because they referred to the main character as nonbinary when they literally are outside of the male/female binary that exists in this world ain't it, chief.
