I thoroughly enjoyed all three novels, much for the reasons stated by the reviewer.
The only hiccup for me was the author trying to humanize Scarlett's father. I don't really believe he could feel the way he did, and still kill her off. spoiler[She was killed for a political strategy, and you simply don't kill your !Loved Ones! over that. But you do when you don't care about your children.] I think that was a mistake the author made. But I loved the three book series. While Constance might not want interesting times anymore, I would still like to see sequels in this setting. |

Admittedly, I had to more skim this review than read it since the manga is considerably more behind at the moment, but I definitely wanna pick this up so I can compare the two (or, worst case scenario, if the manga doesn’t finish publication.) Someone once mentioned they thought this series was more like a political mystery masquerading as a villainess story, and while I totally get the appeal of fluffier, wish-fulfillment villainess stories, I’m not at all opposed to them dipping their toes into more historical fiction tropes. More of this, please!
