This is well deserved, but the art style might be hard to replicate in animated form. I hope they don't botch this.

One of the very few sports mangas I've been following.

Did they announce Medalist anime... with ENGI animating of all things?
Oh no. OH HELL NO.

It's ENGI we talking about - they will screw it over 100%, and not just because the skating is hard to animate in general. It's just THAT BAD.

Kadokawa announced on Thursday

Isn't this a Kodansha manga?

Nay, that is correct announcement. Kadokawa are main PC member of anime - and ENGI is Kadokawa sweatshop studio after all.

Yup. Another example is Oshi no Ko being a Shueisha manga, yet Kadokawa still being the lead producer of the anime.

At least it wasn't NAZ. /s

So it could either be decent like KanColle and end up being mega delayed or like Full Dive and Tantei wa mo shinde where it's barely passable.

ENGI has already got 2 TV anime and 1 ONA due this year still. They getting some practice in first.

If Kancolle Itsuka no Umi De production, where it was in production for more years than the studio exists, got stretched the already downsized to 8 episodes season over six months, and still have subpar levels of animation and a lot of clear errors, is called "decent" - I don't even want to know what can be considered bad, especially when it's core team got already assigned to make Unnamed Memory anime straight after this mess with no rest.

Biscuit Hammer was maybe not great, but it's nowhere near as ENGI screwed production levels - and Medalist is no way as easy task.

To me this just begs the question of what the fudge Kodansha was thinking passing this o to them when it's a series that's been on a MASSIVE awards run. Was the studio that did Welcome to the Ballroom not available or something?

I was looking forward to a great Princess Tutu esque experience, but now that I'm reading up on the studio, I guess I'm not getting that.

It’s not the studio that is particularly important. It is the staff.

At the very least we have Jukki Hanada.

Filled out that survey and this was my choice. So happy to read this and when it comes to the studio I'll pass judgement when I see it, (fingers double crossed).
