Tears of the Kingdom cannot be stopped, the only game that can take the top spot is FFXVI.
The Etrian Odyssey Collection did pretty well, especially considering its price. Now, those Street Fighter 6 numbers are lower than some people were expecting, just for comparison SFV debuted at 46,836 copies back in '16, SFIV at 121,392 in '09 and just to give some trivia SFII Turbo debuted at 464,465 on the SNES back in '93. In fact Ultra SFII Turbo on Switch sold 16,781 copies back in '17, those are 4,703 more copies than SF6 did on PS4 now. Even taking in cosideration digital sales I don't think SF6's numbers on Japan are very high, it's pretty obvious that traditional fighting games are a very niche genre nowadays in Japan and Capcom developed SF6 with Western gamers in mind. I have to wonder if people at Capcom had considered making a Switch version of SF6, probably not, but there were some interesting SF ports for Nintendo consoles in the past like Alpha 2 on the SNES, Alpha 1 on the Game Boy Color, Alpha 3 on the Advance and SFIV on the 3DS. I know some people say that there isn't an audience for traditional fighting games on the Switch, but there actually some titles like DB FighterZ, DNF Duel, Samurai Shodown, in fact Mortal Kombat 11 did well enough for WB. to make a version of MK1, despite being a game for current-gen consoles. I wonder if most third-party developers are just waiting for Nintendo to release a new console, but at this point it seems plenty of games don't perform as well in Japan as they used to. |
