Sooo... let me see if I get the plot:
The girl's lover dies, she tries to have children with her son to populate the planet, but only has boys, she goes to sleep, or something, and when she wakes up she finds out that Phoenix had "An amorphous creature" to have children of their own with the boys she made thru incest and their descendants made a town and they crown her Queen. I got t right? Because if I did... that sounds Tezuka all right, quite frankly, everything I have read from him was dark/weird like that. |

Not all his work was like that, but a lot of his stuff for older audiences has odd bits of that sort, and this is possibly the most out-there thing from the various Phoenix stories. |

The incest here isn´t "the most out" there Tezuka plot by a mile. It doesn´t even belong in the top 5. Keeping a family member in cryosleep to have sex with was done more than once by him. Tezuka´s mice erotica would have taken the No. 1 spot on the Mountain of Madness if it was published and Ayako is probably the most out there due to its realistic setting.
Gekiga Tezuka is rarely bad or even mediocre but beware. His adult work can be Berserk levels of bleak. Incest, child rape/murder, rapist protagonists, bestiality, etc. They have it all and political topics Japanese writers tend to stay away from even if they only write Seinen. Phoenix also goes places. The protagonist of the first arc is a rapist and casual murderer despite it being one of the more grounded tales. Anyway. The 2 versions and endings gimmick have me worried but Studio 4°C can´t do anything in a regular way. The manga ain´t style over substance. This studio is the polar opposite though. |

Looks good l! Gotta say though from what I’ve heard about this series it’s not something that would be considered “Disney friendly” but then again you can say that about all the anime’s they have licensed.
