That's the series I couldn't remember the name of when I was writing this review! It's not stage magic reliant like that one (or Saint Tail), but the vibe is pretty close.

I've read a couple series by the same publisher in Japanese, and I can confirm they're written around a 4th grade level (which is perfect if you want to learn Japanese).

The three big publishers in Japan each have their own imprint for these kinds of books, each one distinguished by a colored border around the cover illustration (green for Kadokawa's Tsubasa line, yellow for Shueisha's Mirai, and blue for Kodansha's Aoi Tori). Yen's new line seems to be tied to Kadokawa's, which feels slightly younger than the others.

I'm very surprised to see this book, which I randomly picked up to practice Japanese with while living in Japan, reviewed on this site. I mean there are so many books with the same green spine on the shelves, what are the odds you'd go for the same one I picked? What I understood of it was reasonably good for the age level.
