The manga is a great read filled with grit and heart. It depicts a tough dog-eat-dog world that 1990s media was oh so good at.
The name Tekkonkinkreet comes from a child's mispronunciation of 鉄筋コンクリート (tekkin konkurito) which means "reinforced concrete". It's a very poignant name because it reflects the 2 lead protagonists Black and White. One lead could be seen as the concrete, sturdy but inflexible and the other could play the role of the steel rebar which can bend and adapt but can't stand on it's own. It's a thrilling and touching story that you won't regret reading. The movie doesn't reach the same heights as the manga. |

Considering that the Minotaur was depicted as a separate character in the movie version, this is kind of interesting. Or perhaps I misunderstood the movie (it's been a while since I watched it), and this actually explains the mind-trip ride I distinctly remember Black takes with the Minotaur. |
