You have to give Crunchyroll this: they can really push a series when they want to.

I still don't understand the marketing hype for Solo Leveling. Like it's an ok show but it's not like some earth shattering original anime.

CR probably paid a lot for it and wants that ROI

Really? It’s a mediocre show at best aside from Taito Ban’s phenomenal voice acting. The webtoon is much better imo.

Gotta hand it to Crunchyroll catering to a single demographic instead of many. They also do this when they announce voice actors appearing in a new show (i.e. Sally Field (Pecan Buttercream in Jujutsu Kaisen) plays Aurora in Precure Mandrakes). If I were a voice actor, I would be offended they only ever said I was in a single role, regardless of how popular it was.

I absolutely agree with you. Aside from Taito Ban's amazing voice nothing attracts here.

The problem is it has nothing to do with the quality, it’s just really popular, and they think it has the potential to get even more popular.

The anime is extremely faithful to the webtoon, so I don't what's "so much better" when it's essentially the same story.

I’m confused by other people’s confusion about the series popularity. It’s your standard power fantasy series with a relatively likable main lead and really cool action sequences. Sure it’s not the best written show, nor is it all that unique, but the story is competently written. Also, the webtoon had absolutely gorgeous art and the anime has great fight animation. In what universe would the show not be popular?

I'm guessing since they don't like it they don't think it should be popular. Or maybe some people don't pay attention to what the average anime fanbase is into so it's a surprise when people find out what's actually popular. Or they hate it specifically because it's popular. I remember when there was a vocal minority of people who kept trashing Sword Art Online endlessly because of how it was the biggest thing in the early 2010s
