The voice actress has not been officially identified, but is listed as 27 years old.

That Sankaku Complex link said it's probably Minori Chihara. She's coming to Taiwan later this year and I'll pray for her safety from now till then.

Wow, good manager keeping track of things like that. It's sad but people really have to take these situations seriously nowadays. In the past, people made a lot of really crazy statements online and you could ignore most if not all of them but lately, it seems like a lot of people just go ahead and tell everyone exactly what they are going to do.

I can't decide if it's a desire to be stopped or just to see if anyone is paying attention to them. Sad that so many innocent people have to worry about this kind of madness. At least with the voice actress, you know who to protect. A little extra vigilance and she will hopefully be safe.

With situations like that knife attack, it's just whoever happens to be there. You can't protect a single location as easily as a single person.

Well, it's a good thing they got him arrested. Can't take those online threats lightly ever since what happened at Akihabara.

Still, with the copycat crimes, the Japanese don't like to make the same mistake twice. That's why I think these arrests have been made pretty swiftly after threats have been made.

No matter who it is, I hope no one decides to do it in the original criminals place.

Wow that's terrible I mean it's awful no matter who it was about but she's one of my favorite seiyuu. Looks to me like an attention seeker.
I hate to be one of these people who blame the anime for this kind of thing (especially when I like them) but it's not crazy to think that a bunch of otaku who want to be like johan or light would try something like this. Rolling Eyes

Crazy. I tell you I really wonder what goes on in the heads of people. Again we're having some of the same problems here. I wonder if there is a study on this type of behavior on newsgroups, BBS, etc...

Good thing they caught this guy.

That's terrible. I can see a pattern here. My guess, is that yes, these men are copycats, copying off eachother. They are crazy and want attention, two dangerous combinations. They see the crazy thing madman #1 did, and decide to do the same thing or something similiar, because it got attention. Its terrible what some people will do. And I feel sorry for the two voice actresses that alomost became victims. They didn't do anything to these men, and yet they were targets. There is something seriously psychologically wrong with those men.

This reminds me of the copycat Werther effect suicides following the publication of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther in which the young man commits suicide over unrequited love. It's tragic that sometimes we only find out about these people who either need serious psychological help or to be removed from society only after they've harmed someone or themselves. Luckily this one seems determined to make a statement to and be noticed by the public before hurting anyone.

Maybe the real tragedy is that we live in a world in which similarly disturbed statements are so common that when they're meant seriously they aren't taken seriously.

Assuming there is some kind of copycat drive to this incident I believe there has been some psychological study of it, although it would be interesting to see if anything specifically has been done to investigate it on the internet. As I understand it, the Werther effect is why news organizations generally do not report out-and-out suicides for fear of producing similar incidents and it's been suggested that it plays a significant role in suicide bombings.
