So does this mean Toupee will stop sitting on the R1 license, and let people in the U.S. watch SM again?

I doubt it. They're still smarting from what Dic did to Sailor Moon which, if I recall my rumors correctly, not even Naoki Takeuchi liked. The day Sailor Moon comes back to the U.S., will be the same day 'Do You Remember Love' comes.
Incidentally, the Sailor-Scout-actresses-gathering on the 6th...? That's my 20th birthday

I really hope the the celebration is accompanied by a new NA push. I think they can get over past poor dubbing (and it was pretty awful, don't get me wrong), especially with some high quality dubs out there now as evidence, but there's the issue of profitability. Do enough people still want Sailor Moon in NA? I hope so, I need to complete my collection! I could only afford one box set when they pulled all the licenses back, so I only own S (my favorite).

But knowing Bandai these days, either it would be subtitle only or take months, upon months to ship here. Or it might receive a rare English audio track. But if I were a fan of this series, I sure wouldn't want Bandai to touch this series, given recent activity. But that is just me, so that is just my 2 cents. Levitz9: That doesn't surprize me that Naoki Takeuchi didn't like that version. Considering how well her husband's work has been treated, I am sure she wanted the same great treatment. But the day Sailor Moon is re-released to America is the day the Haru and Guu series final season is licensed and completed. |

I think Funi is the best shot at an R1 re-release, and considering their RE-dub plans for Initial D, perhaps it could happen, but it would probably need a TV deal to get a new dub. I am a huge dub fan, but if this was ever re-released in R1 as sub-only, I would buy it in a heartbeat. The show does contain some of my all-time favorite female seiyuu.

Sailor Moon was and still is a popular show amongst anime fans even today. The show was a HUGE success in Canada and there is still talk about it in anime fan circles.
The fact that this event is being organized at all must mean that any dispute between Takeuchi and Toei is officially settled. So, I'm thinking that it is possible that a NA release may finally be back underway. I, for one, refuse to give up hope in the chance that the show can get the faithful dub it deserves. |

I don't think the dispute is over. I think it was only about Sailor Stars in the anime changing the starlights from what they were in the manga.

I for one am super excited about this. Extremely envious that Japan gets new releases as well. But there is a increased chance of it making its way back to N.A..
Actually tempted to order the japanese boxsets since they're pretty good prices. . . |

With all due respect to HIMEKA, it would be up the interest a lot if they had a seiyuu concert to go along with this. Fukami and Hisakawa were two of the best singers among seiyuu during that time. The rest can all hold a tune pretty well - Koto-chan probably has the weakest voice but probably the highest fan interest in hearing her sing again. They may not really be in practice, but I think the audience will be very forgiving on that.

If Sailor Moon does come back to Region 1 DVD, it'd better be from the remastered editions that were released in Japan a few years ago.

I hope so too. There really is no reason for it to be re-released here without those remasters. |
