Damn, 20 million copies. I'm enjoying the manga so far so no complaints here. I do wonder how long this series will go on for though, manga wise.

20.38 million... (including limited editions)... as of Sunday, September 8

Updating my estimated total for Shingeki limited edition copies.

Quote:
Regular Edition Oricon Reported Sales
12,716,077 - 2013 only
19,835,663 - all-time

Special Edition Oricon Reported Sales
331,182 - 2013 only (estimation only, based on last seen rankings)
spoiler[413,793 - all-time (estimation only, based on last seen rankings, all-time total is definitely higher, see below)]
544,337 - all-time (more accurate but still an estimation based on the following computation)

20,380,000 (total all editions) minus 19,835,663 (total regular edition only) = 544,337 special edition copies sold as of September 8, 2013

23m+ - series overall latest reported printed copies
(probably higher already)

So SnK sold another 10 mil in roughly 9 months? Amazing. It will probably hit 30 when season 2 airs.

Shingeki is definitely making Isayama a very rich man.

It has incredibly broad appeal. Friends who never watch anime are getting subscriptions to CrunchyRoll just to watch it.

(Then I tell them, since you're there, watch Free!, and they're hooked on anime. ;D )

Attack on Titan has great presentation. Like it or hate it :20 million copies says they like. People should take note and try to build a series themselves. Make it interesting to get people hooked as he did. AOT has a few obvious hooks like, what is in that basement and the mysteries of the titans but will it have lasting strength? As a fan, its a bit slow after the intro. Seems people could care less about the ugliness of the artwork vs the bearing of the content. That makes me smile.

The Xacto knife sword refills make me cringe though. Im also hoping for a game on the new consoles. That would be slick.

@shadowrun: "Seems people could care less about the ugliness of the artwork..." What makes you think the artwork is ugly? The art is pretty damn great. Unless I am somehow misunderstanding what you mean by that statement...

Its not pretty. Compared to what sells within the last decade. The anime and doujins destroy the actual creator in terms of art talent. I personally like the gritty look. Ill change my profile to armin.

Oh. Yes, I totally agree with that. I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to the anime's art. The art from the anime definitely trumps the actual author's art.

Whoa!! Now that's impressive. I'm still behind on the reading part mainly because I can't find many libraries in the area that have it on hand. So I have to rely on tossing a few adds for us to buy. But first I want to watch some more episodes before I start reading again. I'm really enjoying it from what I have seen and read. I'm very impressed to see such a series really gaining momentum and I'm still puzzled as to how. Considering that many manga series either start out good but fizzle out or they just aren't good and are just more mainstream garbage. But I'm glad that this series is doing well because honestly I felt that it was going just be another title.

Though I prefer the manga because of the fanservices of the anime aka Mikasa's pinky-cherry lips. The mangaka is improving his art throughout the years.
