April Fools was yesterday Squeenix, but good job!

In all seriousness, good for Squeenix for trying something new. It'd be nice to see a new franchise come from them.
On the other hand, what kind of light novel do they mean? What is a light novel RPG? Do you mean an RPG based on an original light novel or an RPG following the lead of the many that have recently gotten anime adaptations (harems, magical girlfriends, etc)?
I...have a bad feeling about this.

pls let it be Nier 2: Forest of Myth Adventures.

But no seriously, what are you doing SqEx.

Sounds like they're just gonna make a visual novel/sound novel and are using the "light novel style" moniker as an excuse to use the motifs in the poster image. I dunno, this is gonna be weird.

But one thing that's almost 100% certain is that no one will ever get to play it in English.

Another RPG with Yui and Kaori in the voice cast, sounds like a drama CD/sound novel, CD release date please.

I'm going to assume that a light novel-style RPG is a standard JRPG with VN-like dialogue, except it's just black text on a plain white background, with the occasional black-and-white image, and then the even rarer full-color image.

...That sounds really stupid, even for Squeenix. Assuming "Light" is actually supposed to mean "Visual" makes much, much more sense.

This would line up with Square's recent decision to focus more on the Japanese market/games. Light Novels are pretty big in Japan right now so wonder how it'll play out. Sounds interesting.

Yep this game that surly has been in development more then a month lines up based an thoughts coming in response to the sales of a recently released game.

Also that talk was not "we're going to focus on the Japanese market". How could it be when a big part of the talk is regard to a jrpg's sales in the west. No, the interview was about how SE may try to make games that aren't "global games". In that they won't try to cut out the Japanese in say a Japanese game as apparently people all over the world don't mind and there's a market for them as seen with BD.

The interview just dosen't stop with Japanese games. It also talks about Hitman and how absolution tried to go for this big global appeal. The team struggles with that and a sequel should not attempt that, but instead go to the roots of the series. Stop trying to please everybody and you might just please somebody. Clearly the "everybody" approach may have not been best.

So in regards to thier Japanese made games, the point is by making games that are clearly Japanese(though really when did they stop) they are not closing them off to western markets.

Final Waifu Fantasy. I guess this is a logical albeit curious step given market trends in Japan.
