I would point how sketchy it is that MH won, and this is coming from a major JRPG fan, there are much better games released both in Japan and outside of Japan, then I saw Capcom won the MVP award and figured this must be the Japanese equivalent of the Razzie awards.

Uhh, no? Rolling Eyes CAPCOM makes some of the highest selling games in Japan from Monster Hunter to Resident Evil. Pretty easy to see why they got MVP.

You don't understand Japan then Monster Hunter is gigantic in Japan. From everything I have heard you see people playing all over the place from people on the trains, to people in coffee shops, to office workers on their lunch breaks getting in a quick game, etc... Also they have a different culture over there games that do well in America may do terrible over there. Just because Last of Us did great over in America and won alot of game of the year awards over here maybe it did terrible in Japan and wasn't well received. Plus there is not many games that get many people to play well over 100 hours.

I noticed that afterword but it was more of an example on how the other guy thought Monster Hunter 4 winning game of the year in Japan was a joke. That just because a game is well received and thought great over here doesn't mean it is well received or loved over there and vice versa.

I mean the actual article lists GTAV and The Last of Us as award recipients. They got some dues.

Though whatever, it's Famitsu.

Even if you're the hugest MH superfan, would you really think Capcom was the best publisher in 2013? They had Lost Planet 3, Monster Hunter 4, and ... uh ... Gaist Crusher. Both Nintendo, and Sony put out a lot more notable pieces of software than that.

I definitely have never lived in Japan and I doubt many if not all of you have never lived in Japan. So I really doubt any of us could understand what is well received in the Japanese culture. Like I said earlier games well received in America may not be well received in Japan and vice versa. So just because Lost Planet 3 was not well received in America it may have done great in Japan. Different cultures have different likes and dislikes and we can easily have major differences in what is liked in America and Japan.

Well good thing we have sales data to help out. The very western focused Lost Planet Three was not popular in Japan. Neither was Geist Crusher. I can't say that despite it's sales, weather Geist was well liked , but I can postulate that Lost Planet 3 wasn't. Since it wasn't really a followup to what Japanese gamers liked about the series.

Other then that there was DMC and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. DD did pretty well in Japan. DMC not so much. Out of all the games mentioned so far, only MH and DD were internally developed. LP3 dosen't seem well liked anywhere. DMC is arguable.

So did Capcom deserve MVP? I don't know, MH4 is pretty popular in Japan so maybe that's enough.

Dragon's Dogma is one of the Top 10 selling games for the Playstation 3 in Japan. Resident Evil 5 and 6 were as well. Capcom was pretty dominate so they seem to have deserved the award.
