I see the first season of Love Live! has received a new pressing. That's almost unheard of. Not to mention the fact that it's selling better than most brand new series! Shocked

To be honest, seeing a series such as Infinite Stratos 2 up high in this list already describes where most of these BD sales go.

Re-releases are very common though, its just that most of them get box-set releases. Infact, gundam unicorn v1-6 is also getting a re-release(not in a box-set) next week.

So 2 weeks of domination for Bandai/sunrise, not to mention that on 20 June, Love Live II v1 will come out, so they'll dominate that week too.

Once the full list is out v7 will push it over 30k.

edit :
As always, I'm surprised at IS S2 only selling less than 50% of S1. Not that is a bad thing.

I'm glad to see that Knights of Sidonia and Witch Craft Works are selling decently. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get a second season for both of those shows.

Who knows anymore. Series that get more than twice of WCW don't get s2s announced right away, some series that sell 5 times that amount seem abandoned.

So, the Onimonogatari LE not only sold more than any other Blu-ray release it sold almost twice as many copies as #2.

Do anime limited releases usually do that well, or was there something really special about this one, or was it just a slow week for other Blu-ray releases?

I really would like to see that Nana Mizuki concert Blu-ray, but importing it would not fit into my budget right now.

Limited edition is just a fancy name, nothing more.

But it was far from a slow week, its one of the biggest weeks of the year, a threshold of 4k for the top 20 BD is nearly unheard off.

Series that sold over 20k and that get abandoned? Such as?

Tiger & Bunny? Three years later and no sign of a new series. The people behind it have implied if it does ever happen, it's not going to be any time soon either. (Yes, there were the movies, but an actual series would probably be more profitable. Or would have been more profitable...)

Its both an original series and it did get a movie. Can't really use that as a guidline for tv series based on LN & Manga.

The Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy has been out in it's entirety since 1982 and this is just a Blu-Ray update. The fact that old Sunrise/Bandai Visual works (some from the 80's, some from last year) are selling better than most of the stuff from this season to start is pretty telling. I mean heck Love Live Phase 1 re-releases are keeping company with Knights of Sidonia Vol 1 which is expected to be one of the top sellers of the season.

Bandai Visual has been casually releasing Blu-Ray updates of Sunrises back catalog for the better part of the year now too and these releases routinely outsell a lot of modern shows. The incentive for Sunrise to actually do some work in 2014 is kind of dubious Love Live 2nd Phase notwithstanding (which wouldn't be my preference anyway), so I'm not sure if I'm happy about it as a fan.

Horizon. Not a hint of news in two years.

Also adding, there's piles of shows that sold around 4k and also got nothing, like Ladies Versus Butlers off the top of my head. There really is no guarantee, so I can't very well call anything in the 4k ballpark "a hit". More like "we didn't necessarily lose money!"

We are talking about 20k sellers, not 4k sellers, which is sligthly above average at best.

and 2 years is nothing, mushishi(a 10k seller) got its 2nd season after 6 years.
As a rule of thumb, anything above 10k(excluding originals) will get a 2nd season. Ofcourse, exceptions to this exist. But we don't go with the exceptions, we go with the majority of 95%+

I was talking about 4k sellers in my response to the other poster, which is what WCW is. The point was, who knows anymore. Shows with shit sales continue to get sequels like Hayate, and some shows with decent sales are forgotten. My fear with Horizon is how fast the LN market moves, and the inability to strike when something is hot can leave properties in the dust.

Meanwhile I am twiddling my thumbs praying for a Yuru Yuri and Watamote sequel.

I think Love Live is a special example considering it is an idol phenomena outside of anime.
