That sucks big time. Royal Space Force had a great, mostly subdued, but effective soundtrack and I've always wished he'd do more anime soundtracks. I wish him the best for his health.

I'm a big fan of YMO and a the work Ryuichi Sakamoto does.
For him and his family's sake I hope he recovers as quickly as possible. |

He is truly one of the best Japanese composers. I really hope he gets better.

I loved his work for the Last Emperor and I'm fully sure the emotion of that film through Puyi wouldn't have gotten across without it. Tragic to hear, but hey, smoking is a choice.

I'm admittedly not fond of Honneamise, but I respect Sakamoto. So I wish him luck.

There is an official announcement in English and Japanese at http://sitesakamoto.com/
It was a very special time being able hear Ryuichi Sakamoto at NoNukes 2012 both as part of YMO and with Chitose Hajime performing "Shinda Onna no Ko". I hope that Sakamoto-san can fully recover from his illness. Last edited by omiya on Thu Jul 10, 2014 9:06 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I didn't know he composed any music for anime, but I'm familiar with him for his solo pop music stuff. In fact, his album Beauty was the first CD I ever bought (not first album, just first CD-- yeah, I was late making the switch). I'm still very fond of that album to this day.
Well, here's hoping he makes a full recovery. |

Also remember his daughter Miu Sakamoto, who appeared in Kenji Kawai's Cinema Symphony concert covering "River of Crystals" from Ghost In The Shell: Innocence.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Oyrd8swGzQ I managed to hear her live at Otodama Sea Studio on 26 August 2013 opening for Kalafina. |
