This is a nominee for worst business idea in gaming history, if SE had common sense, they'd base remake plans off of Bravely Second's sales, Type-0, or FF XV instead of mobile trash like this.

Sounds to me an awful lot like he is saying 'we know this isn't the game you want, but heres an empty not really a promise to try to get you to spend money on it anyway'.

It is a crock anyway because you can't take the team that is making G-Bike and remake a AAA game. I mean looking at their games, they haven't made a AAA game... I doubt they have the resources period.

Even more reasons not to support this game, empty promises and forcing mobile on you for a false chance at a remake, it's kind of predatory because SE and CC2 are preying on peoples' hopes for a FF7 remake. The predatory practices is one of the issues I have with the mobile market in general, forcing it on people to enjoy another work or to get a much better game or the hopes for one in this case.

Came here to express scepticism. I agree with what has been said.

Honestly, this sounds very tongue-in-cheek on their part. Like, "oh, hey, you guys still want that game? well, we're not even the ones you should be asking, but maybe if you jump through enough flaming hoops wwww"

I personally am still flabberghasted by how many people still want an FF7 remake. After having just recently replayed it, I can say with full confidence that it's a terrible FF game, at least compared to its PS1 siblings. Not to mention that, for fans of the game, they would be very disappointed with it no matter what they did, and they would probably make everything extremely "Advent Children" which would be even more nauseating/insulting.

If anything, FF8 is the game most deserving of a remake. Aesthetically, it's easily the most advanced of the PS1 era (not talking about "graphics" here), and also the most cinematic, which would lend itself to a full remake very well. In fact, many of the areas in FF8 remind me of FFX, so a remake of 8 would probably be given a similar feel. Plus, they still haven't given FF6 the "DS remake" treatment, and if they remake any other FF game before doing that, I'll personally storm their offices and electroshock everyone.

To make it slightly worse, I'm almost betting that they're assuming the person asking that was talking about an iOS/ Android port.

Although, I think as long as they did a good job on the cell phone version and then ported it to other platforms as a downloadale title it would actually come out really nice. Give it nice looking, somewhere between PS2 and PS3 level graphics. Make it pretty close to the original game but with the script and translation cleaned up. Add voice acting and in-engine cutscenes for talky bits like FFX and up had. Tweak the battles just a little for the benefit of newcomers without compromising the whole thing. Add in a journal like Final Fantasy Tactics had that lets you rewatch any story scene and recap if you forget the story. Don't convert it into a free 2 play game, but divide it up into a bunch of chapters to sell individually if you need. If they do it like that then I think whichever team at CyberConnect2 is responsible for the .Hack games and Naruto and JoJo fighters could probably knock it out without a ridiculous budget.

Was agreeing with everyone and everything they were saying up until I saw that. Then this was said..

I won't bother with trying to give my own reasoning for why I find both these statements so incredibly wrong they're offensive, because of the real bottom line. It's my opinion.

The beauty of that is the fact that it applies to both these statements as well. Those are your opinions. Personally I think that 8 is the LEAST deserving of a remake and was one of the worst FF games I've played.

However, I DO agree that there is no way a FF7 remake would end well. Everyone has their own idea of what it should be and what changes should be made. The Advent Children treatment would likely be inevitable and that is not something to get excited over.

While size of fan base doesn't always represent the products quality, I don't understand what the point of opposing a remake for 7 is.

Final Fantasy VII. Out for IOS and Android 2017. It'll be free to play but you need to pay $5 for all the cutscenes, $1 for every party member other than Barret. You can't buy items/weapons in towns/cities anymore. They'll be sold in item packs priced at $1, $5, $10, $20, $30, $40, $50, $60, $70, $80, $90 and for $100 you get 4 special weapons thrown in for the low, low price of free!!!

Honestly, I want a remake of every single one of Square and Enix's PS1-era offerings but an FF7 remake is what's most likely to happen unless someone is secretly working on a remake of Einhander on their lunch breaks.
As far as FF8 being more "deserving," I think really that goes to FF9 purely by virtue of it being the only one that never got a PC port back in the day. I'd love to see a full-on remake of FF8 as well though, if for no other reason to try and design in ways to more actively encourage players to use card mod and morph/ item mod instead of using the draw command for the most tedious hours you'll ever have with a Final Fantasy game.

Sadly, We'll probably never get a chibi 3D port of FF5 and FF6 like we got for 3 and 4. Instead, we'll probably get ports of the Android versions that have redrawn high res sprites that look less detailed than the original sprites.

No, they're all equally unlikely as in never going to happen. At least in the form that most people are asking about (something equivalent to the tech demo they showed ages ago).

Can you think of a single remake of anything that would have had anywhere near the budget of a AAA final fantasy game on ps3 or superior hardware? That never happens. Either companies do sequels or reboots.

A couple of the older games got ds remakes, but ds dev costs are really low.

lay off the sauce, because you're clearly drunk Matsuyama. I think he's just joking, but even then it's a terrible joke.

The question that perhaps should be asked, is the current SquareEnix in any shape or form to give justice to a remake, should one be made?

I will consider upcoming FFXV as a litmus test on that...

And this is where I differ slightly. I want it to look nice, but I don't care if it's cutting edge or not. I would've been happy to see good PSP ports of these things. It's just PS1-era 3d is a bit too primitive for a lot of people to the point where they get a headache just trying to play them. This is in the long run going to keep the games in that era from getting widely rereleased on new platforms where FFI -FFVI won't really have that problem.

I'd answer to him by saying "we'll remake FF7 when cc2 makes a new .hack game" lol. But in all seriousness, I think SE would be smart to start a new project after they push out type-0 and FF15.
