Somehow, I don't remember that Attack on Titan board game at Anime Expo. Does it use a big figurine? How does it even work?

I'm guessing that the figurine game is intended to be an anime counterpart to Heroclix, though we already have that card game from Bushiroad that covers an amalgam of different anime, whatever it's called. (All I know is that none of my local department stores or comic book shops carry it.)

UFS is such a god damn awful game that relies entirely on its licenses to exist

Bebop doesn't deserve this

UFS is actually one of the best CCGs out right now, if not THE best. It's engine is very unique and ingenious with mechanics like progressive difficulty and control checks. UFS is exactly like a fighting game, but in card game form.

In many card games you only draw 1 card per draw step (Magic/Yugioh/Pokemon). This means that every single draw has significant value, and if you dead draw (which happens A LOT) then you are immediately at a disadvantage because of a luck factor that you have absolutely no control over.

In UFS, each character has a handsize that you draw back up to at the start of your turn. This means that a player can draw anywhere from 3 to 7 cards during their draw step. You see a lot more of your deck over a short period of time in UFS.

But it is also one of the most skill based card games out there. Many estimate that the ratio is around 85% skill and 15% luck. The reason for this is because you can control the luck factors with proper deckbuilding and intelligent in-game decisions.

Even though you draw lots of cards at the beginning of your turns, you absolutely cannot overextend and play out your entire hand, or else you will not have any blocks in your hand to defend with on the opponents turn. It is exactly like a fight. In the competitive community, you see a lot of repeat names in top 8, because those players just understand the mechanics well, are great at math, and have fast processing speed.

I am actually VERY excited to see Cowboy Bebop in UFS. I mostly want to play as Spike and Vicious! Anime smile

And there's a guy works at Jasco!

UFS is convoluted as heck and the main game mechanic is milling yourself and playing your cards for mana. I don't want to build a deck only for 70% of my cards to end up in the graveyard or mana pool when I'd rather be using them.

The difficulty system used for combo stringing is kind of interesting, but holy wow the game feels like playing with a stack of electrical schematics.

also the megaman board game by jasco is so bad it's depressing
Please get some good designers with all of that Capcom money you have.

Also how did you hit up Funi for these licenses? I want the Strike Witches license.

#1) I do not work for Jasco. I am a competitive player with years of experience who travels the Pro Tour Circuit and attends Nationals and Worlds level events. A good friend of mine showed me this thread, and I felt the necessity to shine some light on the subject.

#2) Are you saying that UFS is complicated and difficult to play? That is exactly why the game is very skill based. UFS is a card game that is a bit more complex than its peers. You do not need to understand electrical schematics to play UFS, but you do need to be able to read, comprehend, and do quite a bit of math in order to perform well. I will admit that UFS will most likely never become as popular as Magic or Yugioh, mainly because anybody with any IQ level can plan those games where as UFS will attract higher level thinkers.

#3) I attended Gencon and was able to sit down and demo the board game. It actually plays quite similar to the video game, and is also a board game where every player is interacting every turn. Even if it is not your turn, you are still talking to other players and doing something, contributing to the game state. Take it from somebody who has had front seat experience with the game - It is extremely fun!

As someone who's played the Pokémon Trading Card Game for several years, I am quite used to the idea of dump-and-draw and very complicated rules (the core rules themselves are very simple, but it's an exceptions-based game, where most cards of any competitive value will override at least one of those rules or have a continuous extra effect when present).

UFS sounds pretty interesting if it functions like that, but ever since the last Pokémon League closed down near me, then the last hobby shop went out of business a year later, I've been avoiding any collectible card game as there's no one to play them with except at events and tournaments.
