Ditto! Maybe the stage play will lead it into a season 2.

Oh, cool! I hope it does well~. I can only imagine the quality.

Hopefully we'll get a second season, and I hope the manga gets picked up for localization soon.

Out of the anime/manga that have gotten stage plays in recent times, I think that this one could have one of the best looks. If decent money is put into sets and costumes, there is a lot they can work with.

Obligatory "where's my season 2 comment". On the manga side, would love it to get licensed. But, I do wonder that...if TokyoPop weren't run by who it is run by, we may have seen Yona licensed.

After all, they did give us English readers Mugen Spiral (which I've not read, but heard that it feels incomplete) and NG Life (one of my personal favourites).

^ I think Viz is the best chance for Yona because of who publishes it.

That being said the fact that it is 19 volumes and ongoing is probably hurting its chances the most.

If it is shounen adventure this would be less of an issue but publushers probably don't want to take a risk with shoujo adventure. I am still praying, along with Chihayafuru its my most wished for manga.

I just hope American fans buy the series from Funimation when it comes out. And the series can also be purchased right now on I-tunes. For me purchasing Yona in multiple formats makes sense. But I also hope if the anime sells well, Viz will take notice.

Fingers crossed.

Personally, I won't be going in or the anime. Enjoyed it, but with its ending, it isn't a series I would re-watch.

It ended like that because it's ongoing. There was no better way to end it. If you want the manga or another season I think it's best to support the series. But it's up to you.

Granted if you didn't like the rest of the show I understand but if the only thing you didn't like was the ending (which technically speaking wasn't meant to be a real ending just the adventure continues in the manga sort of end).

Oh, I know why it ended the way it did. The end to this one was always going to be open, and I knew that, but I still hoped I would like how they'd leave off. Didn't. So, the only support it gets from me is that I watched it on a legal streaming service.

The thing for me is, if the ending of a series doesn't satisfy me, then my support for the series doesn't extend to buying discs. If the manga is out there, in English, then I'll get that.

It's rare for me to buy a series that has an open ending, as I feel many fall flat. Recent series, that had open endings that didn't take away my enjoyment of the series, were Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan and SNAFU/SNAFU TOO. But, I was already getting the Yuki-chan manga...so that did influence me. And, now that the LNs have been licensed, I'll be buying those, and I already own season 1.

Others are Engaged to the Unidentified, Nozaki-kun and Kawai Complex. Before that, TWGOK, Okami-san and her Seven Companions, Ben-To, Spice and Wolf, Kurenai and Nobunagun. All but one of those are sitting on my shelf, and the other will join them as soon as it's released.

There are a number of series where I enjoyed everything except the final episode. I'll then see if the source material is available to me (in print), then go and buy that. A number of the manga I collect now, are ones I picked up because the ending of the anime didn't satisfy me, but I loved everything in the lead up to it.

Witchcraft Works, Say I Love You, Nisekoi, Noragami, My Little Monster...all manga I collect, all anime I'm probably never going to buy. I say probably, only because of Noragami Aragoto. I've read how that season my end, but want to see it before I make my choice.

Soon to be added to that list (of manga collected/anime not being bought) will be Servant x Service. If the Yona manga were licensed, it'd fall into this category.

This is a lot longer than I thought it would be...so I'll wrap this puppy up before I continue to babble...

TL;DR - At the end of it all, looking at what I own/plan to buy, it seems like there aren't many anime with a overarching quest, that I enjoy the endings for (if the source is ongoing). The only series that is an incomplete adaption, and has an overall quest to it, that I own (and the source isn't available to me legally in English) is TWGOK .

(I'm using the term quest loosely here)

Maybe you could fit the Monogatari Series, the Haruhi Suzumiya Series, SANFU (eventually SNAFU TOO too) and Nobunagun in there. Other quest series I own are complete, like Steins;Gate.

So, if the end of the arc doesn't give me some closure, I won't buy the discs because I know I won't be re-watching it. Admittedly, if Yona x Hak happened (a la Nobunagun), or I felt like it was strongly implied (a la Kawai Complex), I would buy the anime. But, I never felt that way.

I think not buying an anime series because it lacks a satisfying ending is understandable. I'm a manga fan first and foremost myself, and quite a few manga I collect have anime adaptations that I never even bothered watching, let alone considered buying, because I knew I'd be unsatisfied. It's a little different when the manga's not available in English (I bought Funi's release of Princess Jellyfish, back in the days before any of us thought the manga had a chance here) but still I have to be really interested in a series or feel some sort of desire to support a "cause" (like josei manga) by my purchase. That's my view, but I can't fault someone for buying only what they'll actually re-watch, and not spending money/shelf-space on "causes."

That said, I've so far bought the first five Japanese blurays for Yona because I love it so dearly. I personally found the anime satisfying because it adapted the manga so faithfully that even nitpicky me couldn't complain, because I loved the voice actors and the music, and because I've already got the Japanese manga so I can continue reading seamlessly from where the anime ends (also I think the outer-case art drawn by the mangaka for the releases is gorgeous and I wanted it for myself. yes i realize that's a lot of money to spend for a few illustrations). But it's definitely a special case.

Anyway, now I wonder if I can pull off a trip to Japan to see this play for myself. Hahahaha... but seriously.
