Is this really any good? I've played Aquaplus' Tears Tiara 1 & 2 but they were boring as hell.

Perhaps I'll check the anime though, so even if it's bad, I just have to watch it instead of going through playing it.

So are 100k copies a lot? Any comparisons?

100k is solid first week sales considering the first Utaware game was like a decade ago. Glad to hear Leaf/Aquaplus still has its fans and hopefully the game and anime are both as solid as the first Utawarerumono.

If this also an eroge, then that's really good for porn. However, I think this mean be an all-ages version, correct?

As it was only released to consoles, it's all-ages by default with no 18+ version.

Personally, I much liked Tears to Tiara 2 (PS3). It's simple, yes, but quite charming. Smile
For the original, I've only ever played the fan-translated PC-version, not the later PS3 one. I do have the latter though, waiting until I reach good enough Japanese proficiency...

Would do good for Aquaplus to release the earlier games here in the West, both Utawarerumono & Tears to Tiara...

I really do hope that this game continues to do well so that someone might be interested in bringing it over to the US. Very Happy

Atlus USA licensed Tears to Tiara 2 (plus other rather "obscure" Aquaplus games), so there's an outside chance of this one getting western release. Pray hard.

If one was to compare those sales figures to that of video games in Japan, having sold 100,000 copies in the first week is quite respectable.

Now that's strange. From that list, Utawarerumono sold:

PSV - 26.2k
PS4 - 18.6k
PS3 - 10.6k (I'm guessing this one is PS3 since ANN listed PS4 twice)

That's 55.4k in 4 days.
So that means it sold 44.6k on the 5th day alone?!

i guess it will depend on the company..

since according to Squeezenix

sold 1 million copies in 48 hours was a "under-performed" number for tomb raider
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomb_Raider_%282013_video_game%29

the reboot game now sold 8.5 million as of 2015..

I have to imagine that's global sales for Tomb Raider (2013) though, since in Japan it sold about 150-200k.

enurtsol: That's not strange at all. There is no system that tracks every single sale of every game. Especially now in the age of digital downloads for full games. There will always be discrepancies in the rankings compared to what the publishers disclose, since the publishers have all the data for their titles.

That all depends on your tastes. It's still early to tell on this new installment. But if you're interested in the series it would be best to try and find some fans who know about the game as there has been some patched versions of the first game and maybe a few incomplete walkthroughs that I found when the first anime series came out. Now with all these wikis I'm sure now one can find info on the game (which reminds me).

The first game was an "eroge" that was for the PC some years prior, but it was later re-released (around the time of the anime) for PS2 and later PSP. Those versions had the adult paths removed or changed. Story still remains the same but with some added characters, and possibly events. If you decide to find the games to play, only you'll know if it was worth your time or not.

I've never played the games but wanted to after watching the anime (and being a fan of the BOF series). Didn't care which version, though preferred the console versions but my Japanese is somewhat limited.

That's a big discrepancy though. Particularly digital in Japan.
