Oooh, very nice! If no one has seen this, it's a hidden gem for sure. It's more along the lines of Patlabor than either the more serious mecha (like Gundam) or the more over the top ones (like Gurren Lagann). It's a world where they have to calculate the damages incurred from fighting, then host events to try and get charity for their "only functioning robot that can save humanity, you idiots!" work, only for said event to get interrupted by the need for a fight, lol. Which would be great and all if they then didn't need to account for fuel costs, lol. I'm sure some people would be annoyed at one aspect of the ending (spoiler[these invasions are just a normal every day part of life now, like rain or snow, it's never really determined where they come from or why]), it does end sufficiently epically nonetheless.
And while piloting a mecha might be a job in the Patlbor universe (either the police or construction work, among other things), this is three office workers who end up piloting it and are new to the learning curve too. Why they decided they needed to make a mecha with three pilots to begin with is beyond me, but whatever, it's fun.
I enjoyed the english dub too. It has Joey Hood, Steven Metz, and Lana Lesley as the three mains, people who really only did a few other roles, and it's kind of a shame, I wish they got to do more.

Awww yeah! I've only seen one episode of this (from a NewType USA dvd sampler), and loved every minute of it!

Super excited for this one!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that really likes Dai-Guard. It's easily my second favorite mecha (only after Gurren Lagann), purely because so much about it is different from the more standard mecha stuff I'd seen a bit of at the time, like Gundam. It plays everything out so differently that it ends up helping it stand out really well. Definitely going to have to buy this re-release of it, because my copies of the old singles were used rental copies from Hastings that try to skip sometimes now - I've needed an upgrade for a long time now.

Very cool! I loved the show when I picked up the discs from ADV - I might pick this up the next TRSI sale, just to save some space on my shelf.

Mind you, that's new enough that I wouldn't expect it to be in Diskotek's wheelhouse. I'm thrilled, but it's unexpected.

I absolutely adore this show but I wonder if there is a market for it these days. While the show is structured in story arcs it feels episodic and is way more interested in the humor and drama of the personal lives of the staff as well as corporate and military bureaucracy than mecha fights and alien battles.

Never the less I am glad it will be back in circulation it had a very amusing dub.

Dai-Guard? Oh wow, you know that I only saw one ep of this when NTUSA used to have those demo DVDs. It never followed up on any future episodes. Every now and again I think about this show. Perhaps if it gets streamed I'll have to give it a watch.

But good job on Discotek. But where's my Dangaioh dammit? Where's my Dangaioh-G. I take back everything I said about it.

luv luv Dai-Guard. It's got the most awesomely kickass epic OP song ever!

In fact, DiscoTek should heavily promote it with the OP song everywhere this time!!!

Very excellent anime, but so very much underrated. Should've been on US-TV for a full run, instead of just a couple of episodes a very long time ago. The english-version is just so [expletive] really really awesome!

as such, here's Dai-Guard's Rocketo-Punchii attack outside of the anime!!!

I'll offer a slight dissenting opinion. I bought the ADV set super-cheap when they were liquidating. It's one of the few series that I have ever resold after buying.

It's not bad, it has the neat unique gimmick but also a few well-worn and popular-at-the-time ones (mysterious evolving bug/nature monsters).

It's thoroughly mediocre in my opinion. I sold it because I simply could not see myself ever bothering to rewatch it.

I liked it a lot because it was much less of a mecha fightan show, and more of a disaster relief series, which is really uncommon. I could see myself rewatching it eventually.
