Sega's Lilpri Card Arcade Game Gets TV Anime Green-Lit (Updated)

Otome Road's Mai Jinna designed characters, draws manga for kids' game

The February issue of Shogakukan's Pucchigumi magazine has announced on Friday that an television anime adaptation of the Lilpri - Yubi Puru Hime Chen! trading card arcade game has been green-lit. Sega produces the arcade game machines that distributes the trading cards for children.

After receiving the game card, a player can scan the card at the game machines to gain and arrange items to customize the character on the card. With the user's prompting on the machine's touch screen, the character can then perform magic, songs, dances, and other activities. The story centers on Ringo Yukimori, Reira Takashiro, and Natsuki Sasahara — three elementary school girls who can change into idol princesses.

The manga creator Mai Jinna (Hoshi Made Gofun!, Otome Road) designed the characters on the cards. She also launched the Lilpri manga in the February 2009 issue of Pucchigumi and in the April 2009 issue of Shogakukan's Shōgaku Ichinensei magazine. The franchise's official website is streaming a 15-second television commercial for the game.

Update: The franchise's official website has launched an page for the anime, which will premiere in Japan in April under the name Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri.
