Steins;Gate's In-Story Rai-Net Game Gets Retail Release

posted on by Egan Loo
Early version of Rai-Net Access Battlers board game was sold at August's Comic Market

Rai-Net Access Battlers, the fictional board game that appears within the story world of the Steins;Gate game and anime, will get an actual release in retail outlets in Japan on December 28.

In the world of Steins;Gate, Rai-Net Access Battlers is an Internet-themed board game inspired by Rai-Net Kakeru, a fictional manga (in "Rocoroco Comic" magazine) and television anime series. In real life, an early version of the hacker-versus-hacker game was sold in limited numbers at August's Comic Market 80 event by Steins;Gate's developer 5pb.

The company GigasDrop. will sell a revised two-player battle kit with one circuit mat, eight Link cards, eight Virus cards, two Line Boost cards, two Virus Checker cards, two Firewall cards, two 404 Not Found cards, box, and instructions for 3,990 yen (about US$51). According to GigasDrop., part of the game design has been refined for the new version, and it will begin offering a PDF download of the more balanced game rules on December 28.

Crunchyroll streamed the Steins;Gate anime outside Japan as it aired, and Funimation announced at Anime Expo in July that it acquired the anime for release in North America. A film was announced after the last episode of the television series.
