Gantz's Hiroya Oku to Start New Manga Series in January

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Gantz manga ended earlier this year

The first 2014 issue of Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine is announcing on Thursday that Hiroya Oku (Gantz, HEN) will begin a new manga series. The new series will debut in the fourth 2014 issue of Kodansha's Evening magazine, which will ship on January 28. More information about the new manga will be revealed in the first 2014 issue of Evening on December 10.

Oku launched his Gantz manga in Young Jump in 2000. The "Final Phase" of the manga began in 2009, and the manga ended earlier this year after 37 volumes.

The manga inspired a television anime series animated by Gonzo (and released by ADV Films in North America) and two live-action films (released by NEW PEOPLE Entertainment). Dark Horse Comics released the 29th English volume of the manga in North America last month.

Oku and story creator Hideo Yamamoto (Ichi the Killer, Homunculus) collaborated on a one-shot manga called "Yume Onna" (Dream Woman) that Morning is publishing on Thursday.
