Fan Translator Removes Final Fantasy Type-0 English Patch
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Fan translator Sky announced on his blog on Friday that he was forced to remove posts and pages about his English Final Fantasy Type-0 translation project. Sky said that communications with a "certain game company" led him to remove information about the patch.
The 23-year-old computer-science student claims he faced "threats and false accusations" from the company. Sky said he is unable to answer questions now, but he will write a post to explain the circumstances as soon as he can. He also thanked fans for their support.
Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata revealed in June that the game is getting a Western release as an HD remake for the Xbox One and PS4. Voice actors Matthew Mercer, Orion Acaba, and Cristina Vee will star in the English dub cast of Square Enix's Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy Agito video games.
Tabata, who also produced Final Fantasy Agito, revealed in an interview with website US Gamer last year that not only will Final Fantasy Agito "definitely" be localized for a Western audience, but that he was hoping to bring Agito's companion title — Final Fantasy Type-0 — to the West via Sony's PlayStation Network. Square Enix originally released the Final Fantasy Type-0 role-playing game on the PlayStation Portable in Japan in October 2011.
The game inspired Takatoshi Shiozawa's Final Fantasy Type-0 Gaiden: Hyōken no Shinigami spinoff manga that launched in 2012. The series ended this past January but received a bonus chapter in March.
