A, Abe Reiji Salaryman Radio Comedy Gets TV Spinoff Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
A, Abe Reiji, the Tokyo FM radio comedy show about the daily life of an average salaryman, is inspiring a spinoff anime that will premiere on TV Tokyo on July 3. The title of the anime is Kinyoru, Abe Reiji - Heikin-teki Salaryman no Ijō na Nichijō (Friday Evening, Abe Reiji - The Extraordinary Daily Life of an Ordinary Salaryman). The title and the title character "Abe Reiji" is a wordplay on the English word "average."
Frogman (Eagle Talon) is serving as series director at the studio DLE, and his frequent collaborator Tsukasa Nishiyama is helming his first anime as the actual hands-on director. Frogman, "Abe," and Rica Matsumoto (for the regular female roles) are voicing the characters.
Five three-minute episodes will air in a month. The anime will have segments about the state of salarymen throughout Japan, such as how many eat bread or rice for breakfast.
The original radio show is marking its 10th season on the air after premiering in 2006. It airs on Tokyo FM and 36 other stations on the JFN network at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Its guests in the past have included voice cast members Noriko Hidaka, Tohru Furuya, and Shuuichi Ikeda.
