The Kizumonogatari II: Nekketsu-hen anime film opened in Japan last Friday, and earned 196,051,200 yen (about US$1.95 million) and sold 148,200 tickets in its first three days. The film opened on 117 screens and ranked #8 at the Japanese box office for Saturday and Sunday only (not counting Friday).

The first film, Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu, opened in Japan on January 8. Aniplex of America previously screened the first film in the United States in February-March. The company will screen the first film in four theaters in Canada starting on August 28, and will screen the second film in the United States starting in October.

The third and final film, Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen, will open in Japan on January 6, 2017.

Akiyuki Simbo is once again credited as chief director for the film trilogy at the anime studio SHAFT. Akio Watanabe and Hideyuki Morioka are designing the characters. Yota Tsuruoka is directing the sound, and Satoru Kousaki is composing the music. Tatsuya Oishi is the director.

Kizumonogatari is the third volume in NisiOisin's Monogatari book series and is a prequel to Bakemonogatari. The novel tells the story of how protagonist Koyomi encounters the female vampire that would turn him and his journey to return to his normal life. North American publisher Vertical released the novel in English in December.
