1980s Manga Exhibition at Orbital Store

Exhibition of art from long-running slice of life manga Dokudami Tenement

The London comics shop Orbital, near Leicester Square (8 Great Newport Street) has made the following announcement about an exhibition running from August 1 to 14:

Black Hook Press / Gallery Hakusen are proud to be able to show in the U.K. for the first time selected manga originals from the 1980's slice of life manga series Dokudami Tenement [by Takashi Fukutani].

Dokudami Tenement tells the fortunes of a group of single room dwellers who live on the margins of Tokyo society. The series ran in Weekly Manga Times from May 18th, 1979 until April 2nd, 1993, the work was hugely popular and subsequently collected into 35 volumes by the Japanese publisher Hobunsha.

The exhibition will also tie in with the U.K release of the first volume of Dokudami Tenement in English. The limited edition Aizoban print will be for sale at the Orbital gallery during the length of the exhibition and at Safari Festival on the 12th August.

The Orbital gallery is open every day of the week except Tuesdays.
