Eight Clouds Rising Manga Gets Sequel

posted on by Alex Mateo
Natsumi Itsuki's sequel manga launches in February

The February issue of Hakuensha's Melody magazine revealed on Thursday that Natsumi Itsuki is launching Yakumo Tatsu Arata, a serialized sequel to her Yakumo Tatsu (Eight Clouds Rising) manga, in the next issue on February 28, 2018. The story takes place years after the original manga and follows Akimi, an elementary school student who has inherited the soul of the original series' protagonist Kuraki. The first chapter will have 60 pages and a color opening page.

Itsuki launched the original Yakumo Tatsu manga in Hakuensha's LaLa magazine in 1992, and Hakuensha released the 19th and final compiled volume in 2002. The first two compiled volumes of the original Yakumo Tatsu manga will receive a collector's edition reprinting on February 28, the same day the sequel begins serialization.

The Eight Clouds Rising OVA adaptation aired in Japan in 1997, and Media Blasters released the series on DVD in 2004 and it describes the story:

Eight Clouds Rising stars Fuzuchi Kuraki, a quiet young high school student blessed with immense psychic powers and an ancient sword. He is searching for other magical artifacts with the help of Nanachi Takeo, a college student with latent powers of his own. They delve deep into the dark magic of Izumo, only to discover the secrets buried within the birthplace of all Japanese mythology!

Itsuki's most recent work is Hajime no Shokutaku. Hakuensha released the 5th compiled volume in May and will release the 6th compiled volume on February 28, 2018. Itsuki also drew the Jyu-Oh-Sei manga, which Tokyopop published in English, while Funimation released the anime adaptation.
