2017 compilation film revisits events of 3rd TV anime season

Ticketing service Fandango began listing a theatrical screening of the Haikyuu!! The Movie: Battle of Concepts (Haikyu!! Concept no Tatakai) compilation film in the United States on Thursday. The site lists a September 19 opening date for the film, as well as an image that shows that the film is part of Crunchyroll's "Crunchyroll Movie Night" film screenings.

Fandango describes the film:

Based on the 3rd season of the popular TV anime series Haikyu!!, the compilation film focuses on the Karasuno High Boys volleyball team preparing for their final face off to represent the prefecture in the volleyball national championship. Despite being known as "The Fallen Champions", Karasuno High boys volleyball team is highly determined to take down the powerhouse, Shiratorizawa High boys volleyball team. As Hinata comes closer to fulfilling his promise of defeating Ushijima's team, will the "Flightless Crows" finally find their wings and soar above the best school in the prefecture?

The film covers the events of the anime's third and latest season, and contains new scenes. The film opened in Japan on September 29, and is the second of two Haikyu!! compilation films that opened that September in Japan. Haikyu!! Sainō to Sense, the first film, opened in Japan on September 15.

Production I.G's first television anime adaptation of Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga premiered in April 2014. The second season of the anime premiered in October 2015, and the third season premiered in October 2016. Crunchyroll streamed all three seasons as they aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks has licensed all three seasons. Sentai Filmworks released the anime's first season on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2015, then again in November 2017 with an English dub. The company released the second season on home video on January 16.
