Itsuwaribito's Iinuma Launches Manga of Novel by Cheeky Angel's Nishimori

Manga creator Yuuki Iinuma launched a manga based on Hiroyuki Nishimori's Manten no Hoshi to Aoi Sora (The Starry Heavens and the Blue Sky) novel in the September issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday GX magazine on August 18.

The manga's story centers on Shingo Nakazawa, a high school boy who remains emotionless, even as the rest of humanity is coming to grips with the possibility of extinction due to the approach of a world-ending meteor. In the beginning of the story, Japan thinks itself saved from disaster, only to face another one.

Nishimori (Cheeky Angel, Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!) published the original novel in July 2012 as his debut novel.

Iinuma previously collaborated with Nishimori on their Nanimo nai Kedo Sora wa Aoi (There's Nothing, But the Sky is Blue) manga, which is also related to the Manten no Hoshi to Aoi Sora novel. The pair launched the manga in March 2014, and ended it after seven volumes.

Iinuma ended the Itsuwaribito manga in August 2013. Viz Media licensed the manga in North America, and the company published the 23rd and final volume on April 10. Iinuma also recently ended the Libra of the New Era (Shinsei no Libra) manga on May 25.

Nishimori began Cheeky Angel (Tenshi na Konamaiki) in 1999, and Viz Media published all 20 volumes in English. The series inspired an anime adaptation in 2002. Nishimori's Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! manga also inspired an original video anime adaptation in 1992 and is inspiring an upcoming live-action television series in October.
