New Lupin III Anime Special Casts Asagaya Sisters Comedians

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Special airs on Friday

NTV revealed on Monday that the Asagaya Sisters comedian duo (center and right in image below) will guest star in the upcoming Lupin III: Prison of the Past television anime special. The pair will play television reporters who report on the situation and events within the Kingdom of Doruente.

The special will air on NTV on Friday, November 29 at 9:00 p.m.

The special will focus on Lupin's gang infiltrating the Kingdom of Doruente in order to rescue a famous gentleman thief from imprisonment. Meanwhile, the best thieves from around the world converge on the country. The special will take the more comedic tone of the second Lupin III series (the "Red Jacket" series).

Hatsuki Tsuji (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Pan de Peace!) is directing the special at TMS Entertainment. Stage writer and director Shatner Nishida penned the script, and Hirotaka Marufuji (Lupin III: Goodbye Partner, Aquarion Evol) designed the characters. Franchise music composer Yuji Ohno returns for the special. Regular Lupin III voice actors Kanichi Kurita, Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Daisuke Namikawa, and Miyuki Sawashiro return for the special. Nobunaga Shimazaki, Houko Kuwashima, Shinichirō Miki, and Hiroaki Hirata will also star in the anime. Both Shimazaki and Kuwashima have voiced roles in the franchise before.

Monkey Punch, the original creator of the Lupin III manga, passed away on April 11.

The franchise's first 3D CG feature-length film, Lupin III THE FIRST, will open in Japan on December 6.

Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko's Lie (Lupin the IIIrd: Mine Fujiko no Uso) is the most recent film in the franchise, and it opened in Japan on May 31.

Lupin the Third: Part 5 is the most recent television anime in the franchise. The anime premiered in NTV's AnichU programming block in Japan in April 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the series in Japanese with English subtitles as it aired in Japan. TMS Entertainment USA offered the series' first 12 episodes for digital purchase in the U.S. on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon Digital last November. Adult Swim's Toonami block began airing the anime on June 15.
