YTV will be counting down to 2004 with their second annual, Anime-nia, a marathon back-to-back programming block of YTV's best anime. Featuring a special episode of The Zone: Ani-Mayhem and favourites such as Dragon Ball GT, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon and Pokémon, Anime-nia is a unique way to ring in the New Year. Anime-nia airs Wednesday, December 31 from 2:30 p.m. to Thursday, January 1 at 6 a.m.
NEW YEAR'S DAY SNEAK-A-THON
Look into the future as YTV offers a sneak peak into the new shows premiering in January 2004. The Sneak-a-thon combines favourite YTV shows with the favourite shows of the future in a day-long programming event on New Year's Day. From 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, viewers can catch episodes of Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Odd Parents, and Martin Mystery as well as previewing three new series coming to YTV in January: My Life As a Teenage Robot, Zixx: Level One and The Boy.
MY LIFE AS A TEENAGE ROBOT
When you're metal on the outside and teenager on the inside, sometimes life seems so unfair. XJ9 (or Jenny, as she likes to be called) is tired of defending the Earth. She'd rather do something really exciting like obsess about pop stars, teen magazines and hang out with her friends Brad and Tuck. Nickelodeon's My Life As A Teenage Robot, previewing Thursday, January 1 at 3:30 p.m., chronicles Jenny's adventures through typical teen tribulations like fitting in, peer acceptance, puberty and unrequited love. Only, Jenny experiences them in very un-teen type contexts. If you think life as a human teenager is hard, check out My Life As A Teenage Robot, premiering in its regular time slot Thursday, January 8 at 7 p.m.; (r) Fridays at 4:30 p.m.
ZIXX: LEVEL ONE
Zixx: Level One, previewing Thursday, January 1 at 6:30 p.m., combines live action and game animation in a kids' sci-fi series that follows the escapades of an unlikely team of heroes who join forces in a quest to save the universe from evil. Led by the fearless alien operative Zixx Phunkee Zee, Adam and Griff, two 12-year-old boys, use their game smarts to battle in the Keep – a third dimension labyrinth, which operates like a game. All the while Adam's mother is missing and he thinks her disappearance may be connected to the game. Zixx: Level One premieres in its regular time slot on Saturday, January 17 at 1:30 p.m.; (r) Saturdays at 6 p.m.
THE BOY
The Boy, a stylish, fast paced, action adventure series with heart and a good dose of humour, previews on Thursday, January 1 at 2:30 p.m. It centres around Toby Goodwin, a Canadian boy of undisclosed age who is a student but doubles as a secret agent for the International Federation for Peace (I.F.P.). Toby is the organization's best agent and although he's a certified genius, he's also a typical kid who doesn't always finish his homework on time. In The Boy, it's Toby who's in charge, even though his partner is a much more senior agent. Together with the use of the latest technological gadgetry in communication, transportation and defence they restore peace throughout the world and get Toby back to school before the bell rings each day. The Boy premieres in its regular time slot on Saturday, January 31 at 3 p.m.; (r) Sundays at 1:30 p.m.
THE NEW ASTRO BOY LANDS ON YTV
The new version of the Japanese animated classic, Astro Boy comes to YTV this January. Astro Boy is a robot modeled after his maker's son, designed to be a boy forever – but with super strength and jet-rocket feet and arms. Metro City, Astro Boy's home, is a 'retro-futuristic' city where humans and robots live and work together. Here he has a robot family and human classmates, but as the first robot with advanced intelligence and human-like emotions, Astro Boy sometimes finds it hard to figure out where he fits in. However, it's this very identity conflict that makes him so effective when it comes to fighting the wicked robots to reinstate peace and justice. Astro Boy premieres on YTV in its regular time slot, Saturday January 31 at 3:30 p.m.
3 HAIRY THUMBS UP!
YTV continues to celebrate the big screen with its FEATURE FILM block, 3 Hairy Thumbs Up, on Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. This January 3 Hairy Thumbs Up goes to the dogs, with a programming event that pays homage to man's best friend. Nine canine-themed feature films can be seen throughout the month. January highlights of 3 Hairy Thumbs Up include:
ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN 2
Charlie, the hero of the original All Dogs Go To Heaven is bored with the peaceful perfection of doggy Heaven – and when Charlie gets bored, trouble begins! Even with his old friend Itchy in Heaven, Charlie is anxious to get back to Earth. And he gets his wish – but, only to retrieve Gabriel's horn, which was knocked into San Francisco during a struggle with the evil Carface. Once on Earth, Charlie and Itchy find themselves in all sorts of misadventures, and Charlie becomes quite taken with an Irish Setter named Sasha. How will he ever be content to return to Heaven? All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 is an animated musical featuring the voices of Charlie Sheen, Dom DeLuise and Sheena Easton, and airs Saturday, January 3 at 4 p.m.
PROBLEM CHILD
Ben and Flo Healy (John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck) are excited about becoming adoptive parents – until their new bundle of joy turns out to be seven-year-old terror, Junior (Michael Oliver). He may be cute, but Junior is capable of some pretty serious schemes and he always leaves a trail of destruction in his wake. Even though Junior sends the cat to the hospital, sets the house on fire and cheats at little league baseball, Ben is positive that all he needs is some loving attention. That is, until Junior's pen pal, Martin Beck, (Michael Richards) a notorious serial killer, breaks out of jail and kidnaps his correspondent and Flo. Also featuring Gilbert Gottfried. Problem Child airs Saturday, January 31 at 4 p.m.
