MPAA, KBS America, Tokyopop, U.S. Department of Commerce, and Los Angeles City Attorney's Office to Participate in Unique Panel Aimed at Combating Internet Piracy

LOS ANGELES, California - November 5, 2008 - In an effort to bring together multiple industries and regions in the fight against global piracy, the Korea Copyright Commission and Entertainment Asia Network have announced the panel 'Protecting Copyright in a Digital Age,' which will be held on Wednesday, November 19 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles.

This free event hosted by the Korea Copyright Commission and sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles will provide a forum for governmental agencies along with Asian and U.S. content holders and distributors in the industries of film, television, music, gaming, and new media to discuss how to protect copyright in an ever increasing digital world.

The panel will cover piracy and copyright issues that have plagued both Asia and the U.S. This includes government action and initiatives to control piracy, as well as new and innovative business models and strategies employed by companies to expand digital distribution while making it a priority to protect copyright.

Specifically, South Korea and Japan have the most developed broadband networks in the world, according to a study by Information Technology and Innovation Foundation. Korea, ranked first in broadband adoption, has a staggering broadband penetration rate of 93% while second-ranked Japan has the world's fastest average download speed of 63.6 Mbps (megabits per second). As a result, however, these two countries have also seen some of the highest rates of online piracy.

Join this unique opportunity to hear experts from both regions discuss the most effective methods in fighting Internet piracy. Refreshments will be provided and there will be time for networking immediately following the panel.
