In This Corner of the World's Fumiyo Kouno Draws 1-Shot Manga About Physicist Lise Meitner

posted on by Karen Ressler

This year's November issue of Tokuma Shoten's Comic Zenon announced on September 25 that manga artist Fumiyo Kouno will draw a new one-shot titled "Lise to Genshi no Mori" (Lise and the Forest of Atoms) for the next issue on October 25.

The manga will be about Lise Meitner, an Austrian-born physicist who contributed to the discovery of uranium fission in the 1930s. She was Jewish, so she left Nazi Germany in 1938 to move to Sweden.

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed Kouno's In This Corner of the World manga (pictured right) in North America. The manga inspired an award-winning anime film directed by Sunao Katabuchi in 2016, and the film will get an updated version this December. It also inspired a live-action television special in 2011 and a live-action series this year.

Last Gasp Publishing and jaPRESS released Kouno's manga Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms in North America. This manga inspired a live-action film.
