Ring ni Kakero 1: Shadow TV Anime to Debut on April 2

3rd anime series based on boxing manga by Saint Seiya's Masami Kurumada

The Toei Animation company has launched a website for the third Ring ni Kakero 1 boxing anime series, Ring ni Kakero 1: Shadow, and has announced that the anime will premiere on April 2, 2010. The first Ring ni Kakero anime, Ring ni Kakero 1: Nichibei Kessen Hen, and Ring ni Kakero 1: Shadow are all based on a manga by Masami Kurumada (Saint Seiya, B'tX). The website indicates that the main character, Takane Ryuji, will fight the Shadow Clan when the anime premieres on the Animax Pay-Per-View channel.

The main staff are returning from the previous anime series, including series director Toshiaki Komura; series script supervisor Yousuke Kuroda; character designers Michi Himeno, Shingo Araki, and Eisaku Inoue; and musical composer Susumu Ueda.

Kurumada revealed in his blog in February that lyrics have been written for a new song for his Ring ni Kakero boxing story. Ring ni Kakero 1 was the name of the 2004 anime adaptation of his first Ring ni Kakero manga, and its 2006 sequel was named Ring ni Kakero 1: Nichibei Kessen Hen (Ring ni Kakero 1: The Japan/U.S. Battle Story Arc) after one of the manga story arcs.

Kurumada is best known around the world for the Saint Seiya mythological manga and its various anime adaptations, but he also drew the B'tX futuristic adventure and the Fuma no Kojirou ninja story. Viz Media has been publishing Saint Seiya in North America, while Tokyopop published the 15th volume of B'tX last July. ADV Films and DiC Entertainment released the Saint Seiya anime in North America, and Illumintoons released the B'tX anime. Kurumada ended his Ring ni Kakero 2 manga sequel last year, even as work began on the upcoming Saint Seiya anime spinoff, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa.
