Shaman King Creator: Turned Down New Anime Plans Because Original Cast, Music Could Not Be Used

Shaman King manga creator Hiroyuki Takei commented on Twitter on Tuesday that he turned down plans to make a new Shaman King anime because it could not use the original anime's voice cast and music. He added that he still hopes for another opportunity.

To be honest there were serious discussions on an anime remake, but... since we couldn't use the voice actors and music from the original work, I declined. Still, it would be nice to have another chance.
The Shaman King anime adaptation aired for 64 episodes between 2001-2002. 4Kids Entertainment licensed the series in 2003 and released a localized version on television in the United States.
The original manga began in 1998 and abruptly ended in Japan's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2004, though a reprinting of the manga revealed a "true ending" in 2009. Takei drew a series of short stories titled Shaman King 0 in Shueisha's Jump X starting in November 2011, and published a sequel series titled Shaman King Flowers in the same magazine from 2012 to 2014.
Takei has also worked on the Ultimo and Jumbor manga, and is currently serializing Nekogahara.
